Task 1: What can you remember?

1. Why might gender roles in the UK be seen as a moral issue?

2. In what ways are young boys treated differently which might affect them later in life?

• Think about two of your favourite television shows (maybe one British and the other American?).

• List the main characters of the show and state their job / role & position in the group / family.

• Write a statement showing what this shows us.

Discuss the following questions in your group (of 3 or 4). Think of what you have already learned and anything you might want to look into further.

1. ‘Over the past fifty years in British, women have had increasing opportunities in education, they can enter parliament and rise to high positions, they can be self-supporting, and can choose whether and how many children to have. In every meaningful way women are now equal.’ To what extent do you agree with this?

2. Are there things which women are better at than men and other things which men are better at than women? Give examples.
