GUEST SPEAKER – RACHEL ESSON TOPIC – National Library and its Digital Future Introduction & Thanks to be arranged by Ruth Hosts – to be arranged by Rae SEPTEMBER’S SPEAKER, Rebecca Culver, gave a most interesting talk on JUST ZILCH, the food rescue and redistribution centre in PNth. Just Zilch is in Featherston St just opposite PNBHS. Food is collected from cafes, restaurants, super markets, bakeries etc who have stocks no longer saleable but still good nourishing food. This is sorted and ready to be given out free. No charges are made for the food. Just Zilch workers are all volunteers and more help is always appreciated. Plastic bags are always wanted. SUNDAY LUNCH 24 th September we meet at the Coachman La Patio for lunch at 12.30. This is a pleasant venue and will be most enjoyable. Look forward to that. Lunch on 24 August at Portofino Restaurant was very good indeed with most diners very pleased with their meals. The service, food and atmosphere all got a big tick. And the prices at $16 - $18 a main were considered very reasonable. ‘This restaurant will be on the Keep List,’ said President Goff. WALKING GROUP Contact Kees van Epenhuijsen ph 354 1961 Wednesday 27 September at 9.30 am. We will meet in front of The Esplanade café for a 45 minutes’ walk to see if the book exchange survived in the rosarium and looking in the end of the walk at the newly laid foundation of the Wildbase recovery . Coffee at the Esplanade café at about 10.30 am. A table is booked. Happy Walkers on last month’s walk -----! OUTING – FEILDING LIBRARY is the venue for TUESDAY 12 TH SEPTEMBER’S visit. Our outing date is changed to allow us to attend one of the final sessions of the MANAWATU WRITERS FESTIVAL 2017 The Festival runs from Friday 8 th 12.30pm through a variety of venues and events until Tuesday 12 th , and info on all the workshops can be obtained from iSite and Feilding Library. We will attend ORAL TRADITION – WELLSPRING OF WRITTEN STORIES, run by Mona Williams, internationally known and entertaining storyteller originally from Guyana. The topic is good and the storyteller is also. We will meet at the Waldegrave Carpark and carpool at 9.15. Our workshop is at the Feilding Library starting at 10am – 11.30am. It is important to be on time. There is no charge for this workshop. Following this we will lunch in the town with the Museum group. Those members not wishing to attend the Festival will visit the Coach House Museum. We visited the Museum previously shortly after it opened at its present site, but much has been done since then. The entry charge for this is $12. At approximately 11.45am both groups will meet together for lunch at PaperPlus. Please contact Ross Jones 3588362 to confirm attendance and travel.

Our visit in August to Kiwi Metal Art was really good. About 18 of our members travelled to Longburn and saw the work being done by these imaginative and innovative artisans. Henry and Pip were generous with their time and demonstrated the work they were doing with their robotic cutter.

Adrian and Pet Penn, who have lived in Australia for the past 23 years, were inducted into our Club during our September Club Day. Welcome to you both. MAH JONG GROUP: Contact Joan Ellis 356-8809 Meeting at Joan’s home on 18 Sept – Joan Ellis; 2 October – Keay McCormack; 16 October Elaine Read. New members are always welcome. It’s a fun game, we have a great afternoon tea and lots of good chat. NEW TREASURER NEEDED by 31st December. After 5 years Andrew is retiring. Please consider this exciting position. Russian Ballet CITY LIBRARY: Rewi Alley Exhibition 19thAug – 16th Sept. Library holds many excellent exhibitions, well worth viewing. TE MANAWA: Golden Dreams Landscape Views. Put on by Te Manawa Art Society, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Art Gallery. Should be well worth viewing. CENTREPOINT: 8-9th September 8pm Songs for Nobodies. Many of our members saw and thoroughly enjoyed this show, all its well known songs and the talent of the singer. ‘White Man Behind a Desk’ Sept 22nd, 23rd 7.30pm Election Weekend. Comedian Robbie Nicol pokes fun at politicians and other issues. Very topical. From YouTube to Centre Point. And looking ahead: 4 Nov- 16 Dec. ‘Ropable’ A comedy.

UPCOMING TRIP TO TAKE PART IN

TRAIN TRIP TO TAUMARANUI & BACK SUNDAY 4 MARCH 8am-8pm Think about this and plan to join us all. We will do the Spiral, and have lunch at Taumarunui before returning home. Wonderful country. Needs to be booked by DECEMBER

HOROWHENUA TASTE TRAIL Saturday 25th Nov. – 2017, travel by bus. As announced at Club meeting, the outing for Nov will be to “The Horowhenua Taste Trail” Levin, on Sat. 25th . The Horowhenua Taste Trail is a yearly event which showcases the excellent food and produce the district has to offer. From factory tours to gourmet food trucks. It has been suggested we prearrange three visits to the following - RJs Licorice, Tendertips Asparagus, Levin Eels production facilities, and have lunch at a suitable café/restaurant. Final numbers will be required for booking bus at October Club meeting.
