Davis Architects is a Design Based Practice based in Byron Bay on the North Coast of NSW. With a wide range of projects in our design portfolio ranging from alterations and additions, to new homes and larger commercial

projects, we see each project as an opportunity to create a unique design for our valued Clients. Our projects can be viewed by visiting our website - www.davisarchitects.com.au.

This project called for a flexible design of a studio building that could accommodate the family temporarily whilst the major renovation of the main house took place. Once the project was completed the Studio would then be used for entertaining and guest accommodation. With no outlook or view the design

challenge was to create an “sanctuary” in a suburban setting. This would mean more design emphasis on texture, materials , detail and seamless connection from indoors to outdoors to create the illusion of more space. So working closely with a quality local builder, like Peninsula Projects was key to this aim.

With well over 10 years experience working on the Far North Coast we place a great importance on working with local businesses and using locally sourced Australian products. The External doors and windows are such a huge part of the success of our residential projects and as part of our commitment to sustainability, we insist on using Australian Hardwoods for doors and windows on all our projects and Designer Woodworks are able to source timber locally from around Kyogle.

The design of the kitchen also had a sustainable “angle”. The internal joinery supplied by Dimensions By Design was painted on site using water based low VOC paints, this gave the cabinets a softer “look” that was more in keeping with the “beach feel” we were after. There was no “gyprock” used in the project with all the internal walls clad in timber. Byron Painting Service, a well established local contractor did a fantastic job with the detailed painting work which is feature of the finished design.

Davis Architects aim push the boundaries in our pursuit of design excellence, whilst creating homes that are sustainable and most of all - comfortable to live in all year round.
