Real World Evangelism:
Lesson 3
“Preparing to Reach the Lost!”1Pet 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in
your hearts, and always be ready to
give a defense to everyone who asks
you a reason for the hope that is in
you, with meekness and fear;
“but in your heart honor Christ the Lord
as holy” (ESV)
One of the most important
lessons a Christian needs to know
is “how” to reach/teach others!⋆ It is sad to hear that often times people have
been Christians for many years and yet they
have never taken the time to learn “how” to
reach others!
⋆ Some of our best Bible study will come from
us really taking time to prepare to reach others!
Taking time to learn the answers they
desperately need!
This cannot be overly stressed! Far
too many Christians have never taken
the time to “prepare” themselves to
teach others!⋆ Many feel that they are not qualified or
that others will do better, but let us
remember that the “power” is in the “seed
and not the sower, the message and not
the messenger!”
⋆Rom. 1:16 cf. 2 Cor. 4:5-7
⋆1 Pet. 1:23 cf. Is. 55:6-11; 1 Cor. 3:4-7
We are called by God to not only be
maintaining, but to be maximizing! ⋆ We called to “bring forth fruit!”
⋆ Lk. 8:5-15
⋆ We called to “use it or lose it!”
⋆ Mt. 25:14-30
⋆ It is past time that God people once again
realize their calling!
⋆ When we look at the example of the early
church we find every member working, every
member sharing!
I. Know What One Must Do!I would like to ask all of you a question, “how many
of you can tell me what one must do to be saved?”
⋆ This is indeed one of the most important questions
one can ever ask & answer!
⋆Ac 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were cut
to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the
apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
2:38, 41
⋆Ac 9:6 So he, trembling and astonished, said,
"Lord, what do You want me to do?" Then the Lord
said to him, "Arise and go into the city, and you will
be told what you must do." 22:16
The Five Steps of Salvation!⋆ One must hear the Word!
⋆Rom. 10:17
⋆ One must believe in Jesus!
⋆ Jn. 8:24; Heb. 11:6
⋆ One must repent of sin!
⋆Lk. 3:3,5; Act. 17:30-31
⋆ One must confess Christ!
⋆Mt. 10:32-33; Act. 8:37
⋆ One must be baptized into Christ!
⋆Mt. 28:19; Mk. 16:16; Act. 2:38; 22:16
It is important to remember that this is
not where our life with Christ ends, but
where it begins!Rom 6:3-4 Or do you not know that as many of us as
were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His
death? Therefore we were buried with Him through
baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life.
⋆ If we do not have these verses & others
like them memorized, then we can bring
someone with us or get books, lessons and
tracks to help us! See examples!
II. Know How One Must Do It!Does it really matter “how” one obeys these
five steps of salvation?
⋆ The simply answer is “YES!”
⋆ What I mean by this, is one Word as good as
another, one belief, one repentance, one
confessing, one baptism?
⋆ No, they need to be done for the right
reasons & in the right way!
⋆ Often times one doesn’t really understand
the what, why & how are important!
The Bible makes it clear that there is a
right kind & way to obey these steps!⋆ When we are studying with someone we need
to make sure we ask them “how” they became a
Christian, if they believe they are already one.
⋆ Many in the religious world have come to
believe that the “how” isn’t important, but God
indeed believe it it! (Act. 18:24-19:5 cf. Rom.
10:1-3)
⋆Far too many are allowing the unsaved to
remain lost because they don’t want to offend
them! Let’s love them enough to speak out!
III. Know Why One Must Do It!⋆ This last point that we will now look at is to me
the “motivating factor!”
⋆ I can remember as a child that my favorite
question was always “why?”
⋆ I wanted to know why something was the way it
was, why I had to eat my dinner before dessert
& etc.
⋆ It seems to me that we often point out “what”
but not always “why!”
⋆ Why do we need to prepare to reach the lost?
How many men/women “need” Jesus
in their lives?Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for
there is none other name under heaven given among
men, whereby we must be saved.
⋆ The answer is “all of them!”
⋆ An example of the what & why!
⋆Eccl. 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the
whole matter: Fear God, and keep his
commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with
every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether
it be evil. (Act.17:30,31)
Do we really understand that
people are lost without Jesus?⋆ What happens if they die in the state
they are in?
⋆ There are only two options that await
us, heaven or hell and it is time we take
seriously what happens to the lost if they
don’t come to know Jesus!
⋆ This is “why” it is so important that we
learn to prepare to reach them!
Conclusion:⋆ As it is the case with everything in life “practice
makes perfect!”
⋆The more we prepare, the more we try, the better
we will be come at reach the lost for Jesus! But if
we never take time to prepare we have failed
already!
⋆ I as you this morning, “are you prepared to teach
others, are to ready to reach them with the good
news of Jesus?”
⋆ If you are here today and not yet a Christian,
then today is the day!
