Sapana Shah is a native Angeleno, but her Indian family roots, career path, and romantic life all but assured she would travel the world. However, the Buckley High School, UCLA, and

Emory University School of Law graduate, 34, will tell you that Studio City is the ultimate home base to build a family with husband Stefano Grossi, 38, and year-old son Massimo.

Sapana is best known in the community for the stand-alone law practice, Shah Grossi (founded in 2014), focused on corporate and business law. The firm is a culmination of successes that earned her the prestigious title of a Top Women Attorney in Southern California by Los Angeles Magazine. After clerking for Judge Susan M. Speer at the Superior Court of California, she worked for local, national, and multinational law firms. Her litigation experience includes trial and appellate advocacy in federal and state courts as well as arbitration and mediation proceedings.

“As an attorney, it’s difficult not to think about clients’ cases or business deals 24/7,” Sapana confides. “Every morning, I wake up with renewed strength, excited to get back to the fact pattern I was analyzing, or the brief that I was drafting, or the business deal that I was negotiating the day before. It may sound cliché but it is so true. After working on certain matters for months or years, I truly feel like I have a stake in the outcome.”

Whether a client is a Fortune or Inc. 500 company or ambitious start-up, Sapana believes that having a personal connection with her clients makes a big difference in helping them attain a desirable outcome for their case. This means building relationships with them that involve constant communication and looking at their interests beyond the

specific case at hand. This strong bond of trust, in turn, has transformed into long-term clients.

Sapana has received other industry distinctions that have reinforced her excellent reputation. She is a member of Super Lawyers, based on the exceptional degree of peer recognition and professional achievement she’s attained in her years in practice. She was selected by that organization as a Rising Star in 2016 and 2017, an accolade bestowed upon lawyers who are only 40 years old or younger, or have only been in practice for 10 years or less, yet have garnered accomplishments equal to those of the most well-established, prestigious law firms in the nation. Her membership in Lawyers of Distinction places her in the top 10% of all attorneys in the United States. As a lifetime member of Ethical Lawyers of America, she maintains her dedication to honesty, integrity and civility in the legal profession.

Stefano Grossi (who has an MBA from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY and is fluent in three languages) is a serial entrepreneur and director of award-winning interactive marketing agency, GrossiWeb, which he founded in 2006. GrossiWeb is a Google Agency Partner that has received recognition as one of the best local businesses year after year, alongside some well-known companies such as the American Red Cross, Intuit, and Merrill Lynch. With offices in Atlanta and Los Angeles, his company helps startups to medium sized businesses worldwide design and deploy their web-based businesses. He transitions businesses through rapid scaling cycles and has generated millions of dollars in online revenue for his clients.

“Well thought-out strategy and relentless promotion are essential to online success for companies seeking to capture more of the market,” he says. “I especially enjoy cracking the code on how to best leverage the client’s budget to maximize return. Our clients range from boutique medical and professional practices to multinational manufacturing companies and government agencies.”

Sapana and Stefano have successfully mastered the life part of the “work-life” balance in the Sunshine Hill neighborhood section since the summer of 2012. It was love at first sight for the couple when they placed a bid on their current home,

built in 1924 for one original families who settled Studio City. As the couple grew to learn more about the home and neighborhood’s history, centered on the development of CBS Studios in the 1920s, they fell even more in love with the neighborhood. They also appreciate the fact that the cohesiveness of the neighbors and their looking out for one another gives it a warm, “small town” feel.

“There is also a strong sense of community, and that the residents are proud of where they live.” Stefano says. “On Sundays, we love strolling down to the Farmer’s Market and greeting all of our neighbors on the way and back. We are looking forward to creating more memories with our son. As the previous owner of our house used to throw these magnificent Christmas caroling parties, we would love to do the same and continue her legacy.”

“Some of our neighbors are our clients,” says Sapana. “There’s nothing better than helping neighbors with their business matters! Of course, our passion these days is spending time with our son, doing “first time” things with him…even simple things, seeing him touch grass for the first time, watching him taste grapefruit for the first time. Christmas (which we succeeded in prolonging as much as possible), which was spent in North Carolina with my in-laws.”

Sapana and Stefano’s extended families provide many more things to smile about. Sapana’s father and brother are dentists as is Stefano’s mother. Stefano’s family story, meanwhile, documents success and family resilience in the face of adversity. World War II prompted his family to immigrate to Venezuela during the war, especially as his mother’s birthplace of Cassino was virtually destroyed during the war. The family later relocated to upstate New York, where they raised four boys (Stefano, Mauricio, Marco, and Sergio) and enjoyed

successful medical careers (father is a hematologist/ oncologist and mother is a dentist).

The couple plans to take the values they picked up from their respective families and pass them along to Massimo, whom they plan to enroll at Carpenter School in a few years. Their pastimes also focus heavily on exposing him to a world of history, learning and fun. Prior to Massimo’s birth, a wedding brought the couple to Italy. Sapana describes it as the perfect ‘babymoon,’ as she was five months pregnant. With her in-laws, they traveled all over Italy to trace Stefano’s family’s roots.

“It was a once in a lifetime trip,” Sapana says. “However, Studio City is idyllic, with its location at the edge of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Hollywood Hills. You are minutes from the heart of Los Angeles, but just far enough away to have privacy and peace. And, of course, it is the perfect distance from the Hollywood Bowl. What more can you ask for?”

Danny Golden has devoted over 20 years of his life to home improvement, from designer kitchens, to atmospheric windows to wall texturing products.

However, his passion happens to be something we use everyday and often take for granted—our floors. As the owner of Simple Floors for the past seven years, he excels in providing floors that not only complete a room but perfectly suit the lifestyle of the home owner.

“The most exciting part of being a business owner is earning great Yelp reviews, some that are at least a paragraph long, with a lot of details of how we helped customers revitalize their home through highly personalized service,” says the Valley native. “My goal is to maintain high standards in how I run the Simple Floors store, and putting the clients first. I credit my success to good customer service, down to a lot of “thank you’s’ at the end of a contract or transaction.

As Golden regularly works with a variety of interior designers and home improvement professionals, he also notes that he’s gotten feedback from them about his genuine demeanor and the way he connects with each home owner client on a very personal level that ensures satisfaction at the end of the job.

“I have been told that I am able to achieve a flow of conversation, am sincere and that I speak with authenticity,” Golden says. “When I speak with my clients, I listen carefully to fully assess what their needs are, and educate them thoroughly on all of the different varieties of woods used in flooring that are on the market. Once customers know their

option, I then recommend flooring solutions that suit them. We don’t want to steer them towards a certain brand or type of flooring, but instead let them know of several options that specifically fit their home improvements and decorating needs. I am also good with design and color, and want to help customers visualize what the home will look like with a given type of flooring.”

Although he has customers coming into the shop from all over the Valley, he points out that the customers from Studio City and Sherman Oaks pay closer attention to detail, take pride in their homes, and put the quality of what they are buying before price and other considerations.

“I will have the customers shoot and bring in photos of their home,” he explains. “I then will show them a catalog of photos featuring different rooms so we can match their ideas together with outs, and they make a sound investment that will make the room an enjoyable experience for years to come.”

Currently, wide plank European French Oaks floors are so popular that a display with several colors and textures is the focal point of the store. He predicts the trend will be prevalent for at least another year.

“Wide plank European French Oak floors is a great pick because of the interior designers turning to them to complete a room, as well as their presence on such apps and web sites (such as Houzz and Pinterest) which showcase these floors in luxury homes with their rich, luxurious use of the wood. Golden prefers floors

“One of the strong selling points wide planks is that they create an illusion of space and make rooms look larger than they actually are,” he says. “The wide planks make for maintenance free floors. All he owners have to do is sweep or vacuum and use Bona hardwood floor cleaner to finish it off.

Individuals in interfaith relationships often find that their religion takes on more meaning when they describe and/or share their traditions and rituals with the people they love.

They take their own religion less for granted. Celebrating both Easter and Passover is one way to think globally--about the need for peace and understanding between nations--and act locally--by working to foster tolerance within yourself, and your family.

Both Easter, which is traditionally celebrated at sunrise, and Passover, traditionally celebrated at sunset, are family gatherings where occasional friends are invited to join in a special and ritualized meal. As at any family gathering, at both Easter dinners and Passover Seders there is always more politics than meets the eye. The weeks of planning, deciding who gets invited, who hosts, who brings what dishes, and even who sits where may be the result of thousands of innuendoes

and years of family traditions. The children often have their own sets of feelings, needs, hierarchies, and agendas: Who gets to sit next to the window, who gets the most eggs or the afikoman hunt, and do I have to wear a suit?

A difference between Easter and Passover is that celebrating Passover occurs in the home, as opposed to synagogue or church. A Passover Seder stands on its own as a religious event without the need for a rabbi as guide. Easter, however,

includes the magnificent and formal beauty of the church and a church service. Easter music, including the Bach creations of the Passion of St. John and the Passion of Saint Matthew, is moving and inspiring.

Passover lends itself quite well to interfaith relationships because of:

1. The emphasis on innocence: On asking questions about the meaning of the celebration. The ritual of asking questions is built into the Seder.

2. The emphasis on overcoming suffering: The story of the

Exodus is a story of victory over oppression by the pharaoh of Egypt. The theme of overcoming oppression is one that most people can relate to.

3. The acknowledgment of spring: Both Easter and Passover involve an appreciation of spring. This includes eggs, which are part of the seder table and Easter celebrations, lambs, which are part of the seder table and Easter, and greens, which are served at both Passover and Easter.

4. The fact that Jesus’ last supper was a Passover Seder: The famous and ubiquitous Leonardo da Vinci painting of The Last Supper reminds the educated onlooker of the connection between these two events.

5. Both the betrayal of Jesus and the slavery of the Jews are stories about one’s essential goodness not being known: The story of the resurrection of Jesus has enormous spiritual passion: it represents the hope of peace and an ongoing connection with a loved one despite that person’s death. It reminds people that they can, in memory, ceremony, prayer, or meditation, reconnect with the essence and spirit of those who have gone.

Those couples lucky enough to have both a Christian and a Jewish head-of-household will probably find the honoring of Easter and Passover to be the richest in intelligence and spirit of all holiday combinations.

By now, surely you’ve heard about yoga. You might have heard that it’s challenging, rewarding and addictive, all of which are true. If you’re curious about yoga, it’s helpful to know how to start your practice.

There are great reasons to begin practicing yoga: it’s great for your mind, it helps you relax and it’s an excellent workout. On the other hand, yoga can be intimidating. It’s known for being challenging and it may seem like there are two prerequisites for attending a yoga class: pretzel-like flexibility and zero percent body fat. The belief that you have to be flexible and in top physical condition in order to do yoga are not true—anyone (no really, anyone) can do yoga.

Your yoga practice is unique to you and only you. The poses you partake in are with your own comfort and fitness level in mind. That being said, there are definitely a few ways to prepare for your first yoga class.

1. HydrateBeing well hydrated before, during and after yoga is essential, especially if you’re attending a

hot yoga class (over 90 degrees). Water helps fuel your muscles and your mind so that you remain focused and loose. Bring a nice cold water bottle to class with you and take a water

break whenever you need it. There’s no need to overdo it, especially during your first few classes!

2. Wear breathable clothingFeeling comfortable in your exercise clothes is essential to a happy first yoga

experience. Wear what you feel best moving around in and make sure the material is light weight, especially if you’ve signed up for a hot yoga class, like Bikram or Vinyasa.

Heavier materials like cotton aren’t ideal as they won’t necessarily keep you cool and comfortable.

3. Have an open mindMentality can make or break your first experience with yoga. Yoga is fun but is designed to make your body work. Enjoy the challenge! Half of the exercise in a yoga class takes place in your mind, so let it make you stronger by keeping an open mind. Also, don’t be too hard on yourself. If your balance is shaky or you just can’t get your leg to bend like that, it’s okay! Regroup, take a drink of water and jump back in when you’re ready.

4. Practice at homeIf you really want to feel at home in your first class, practice some basic moves in the comfort of your own home. Four-Limbed Staff Pose or “Chaturanga” is a key posture during your yoga flow. Stack your shoulders over your palms in a high-plank position on the mat and drop to low plank with your elbows hugging your sides. Keep your chest roughly six inches from the floor and hold this position. This is the most common transition pose, so mastering it will definitely up your confidence on the mat!

5. Focus on yourselfYoga is all about centering your focus back to yourself and your own body’s needs. Don’t give into the temptation of comparing yourself to the yogi next to you. Everyone’s body looks different in each pose, so watching your neighbor is fruitless. Your time at yoga might be the only 60 minutes you have to yourself that day—live in the moment. Think positive thoughts, savor each pose and you’ll leave feeling like the best version of yourself. Namaste!
