About the Promoter

Soon after the nation gained independence Mr. G.J.Fernandez, a visionary entrepreneur established his engineering & construction company in 1947, to engage in the construction of infrastructure projects in the power, irrigation, roads & building sectors. GJ Fernandez Engineers & Contractors has taken up several major construction projects in Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh in the past 6 decades. He carried out his first diversification in 1968 by setting up Esmario Export Enterprises in Kollam, Kerala for processing & exporting of marine products

Civil foundations for the spillway of Tungabhadra Dam (Munirabad), in the erstwhile Hyderabad state; Irrigation canal works for Tungabhadra Project, Upper Krishna Project and Karanja Project in Karnataka. Civil and Structural works in Thermal Power Plants and participated in building 6 units of the 7 units of 210MW each of Raichur Thermal Power Station in Karnataka, besides Kothagudem and Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project in Andhra Pradesh.

• After successfully managing the sea food export business for 18 years and gaining experience in maintaining boats and propulsion systems, the company decided to expand into distribution of marine engine.

• The company identified the “Mariner” range of Kerosene operated Outboard Motors (OBMs) which were highly reliable to help its goal of modernizing the traditional fishing segment.

• In 1986, Marine Power International, USA (a Brunswick Company) – the manufacturer of Mariner OBMs appointed Esmario as the sole distributor for their Mariner OBMs in India.
