Real Carriage Door Co. gets Windswept
Don Rees, Owner and Founder of Real Carriage Door Company, Gig Harbor, WA know a good thing when he sees it. Rees immediately fell in love with the Windswept Weathered Wood series when looking to build a personal home with a Cape Cod appeal.
Don was drawn to the unique ethos of the Windswept series as it represents an environmental category termed as ‘New-Sustainable’. Windswept Weathered Wood is crafted by utilizing standing dead or dying beetle-kill tress from the Colorado Rocky Mountain regions. These same trees are the exact cause of all wildfires in this region.
Until now, there these trees have simply fallen victim to forest fire and horrendous detriment. Claiming these unwanted trees is an environmental wonder and a champion of pure
sustainability. As one of Rees’ employees stated, “this new Windswept product is awesome but the Eco-Story is even greater”!
‘New-Sustainable’ represents a new ecological category that claims unwanted virgin standing dead (or dying) wood fiber that is otherwise carbon released into the atmosphere for a most
Eco-friendly product.
Windswept Weathered Wood is dedicated to creating products made from responsibly harvested wood. Instead of leaving trees to decompose, Windswept has repurposed them into durable, attractive wood products. Real Sliding Hardware has united with Windswept to create Weathered barn doors from this beautiful wood.
People are drawn to sliding barn doors today because they can be used to resolve a variety of design dilemmas. Sliding barn doors are both stylish and func:onal. From covering clu<ered storage spaces

One of the most venerable and recognized of American house styles, Cape Cod houses have adapted to the needs of a modern family, providing generous space behind a modest façade.
Originally developed in New England in response to harsh winters and the need for simple
construction techniques, Cape Cod houses can be found anywhere residents want clean,
symmetrical lines. Often featuring wood shingles or clapboard siding, Cape Cod homes utilize
double-hung windows with shutters, with little roof overhang and a minimum of exterior
ornamentation. The symmetrical design is mirrored in the interior, which often features a
center hall layout. When present, the second floor is usually a half-story under the roof gable;
dormer windows provide light and effective air circulation.
