“Patience: what you want the car behind you to have that you won’t give to the

car in front”

Numbers 21:4Then the people of Israel set out from Mount Hor,

taking the road to the Red Sea to go around the land of Edom. But the

people grew impatient with the long journey…

1. The driving force behind impatience is control.

Psalms 115:3 Our God is in the heavens, and he does as

he wishes.

 

Impatience is worrying that God won’t get it right, and

inconformity is worrying that God got it wrong.

God is sovereign. if I feel like He's taking too long, it means I'm

rushing."

2. The outcome is determined by the

process.

James 1:2-8

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. ...

3. You can’t accelerate God’s blessings, but you can delay them.

1 Corinthians 10:10 and don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of

death. 11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn

us who live at the end of the age.

Why wait?

1. It’s a command.

Psalm 27:14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and

courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

2. It puts God to work.

Isaiah 64:4 For since the world began, no ear has heard and no

eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who

wait for him!

Habakkuk 3:2 This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.
