The holiday season will soon be here ~ thefts and burglaries typically increase during this time as we are more hurried, harried and distracted. Although we are living in the lowest crime area of all of Hillsborough County, here are simple tips as a reminder from Community Resource Deputy Jeff Merry and our Committee for safe holiday shopping:

    >>> As purse snatchings are most common this time of year, try to go without a purse at all. Keep wallet contents in a zipped or buttoned pocket. If you must carry a purse, use one that can be strapped tightly and worn on the front.

    >>> Stay aware while leaving your locked car and returning. Thieves may follow you, looking for an opportunity to strike. If possible, shop with a buddy. If you must shop alone, especially at night, and you feel uneasy about walking to your car, request that a store employee escort you to your vehicle (Beall’s Department Store has been offering this ser-vice for years).

    >>> There is a trend now where Amazon trucks are being followed and deliveries are being watched. Beware of “porch pirates”. If you are expecting packages, keep an eye out for your delivery.

So, please follow these safety tips, just be aware of your surroundings.

On behalf of our Community Resource Deputy Jeff Merry and the Community Security Committee Members, have a happy and safe holiday season with family and friends! ~ Russ Safford/Tom Rose

Operation Medicine Cabinet is a collection of expired or unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for proper disposal.

Improper disposal leads to the contamination of Florida’s aquatic environment. Wastewater treatment systems are not designed to remove

these medications from our water. Help keep our water system safe!

The Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a drop-off time in

December for all expired or unused medications (including

    pet medications):

    Wednesday, December 4th

    from 9am to 12pm

Sun City Center Community Hall (1910 South Pebble Beach Boulevard)

Simply drive up to the front entrance area of the Community Hall

where someone will take your “deposit” (no need to get out of your car!)
