Indepth Number skills development for primary students
Symphony Math teaches School Years 1 to 6 Number Sense
skills—which form the basis of our math curriculum. It is also
suitable for older students who need to remediate those skills.
Symphony Math® is a highly intuitive program that teaches
number sense skills at a conceptual level - helping students to
understand the deeper mathematical meaning and not merely
repeat answers by rote. The program automatically adjusts
activities offered based on students answers, progressing
students who demonstrate they already know a skill more
quickly, and providing extra practice to those who need it.
Each Skill is practiced using multiple “Ways of Knowing” which help
students visualise, r and apply ideas quickly and
accurately. Students use onscreen manipulatives such as:
Counting Bars, Dot Cards, Number Lines, Number Problems,
Word Problems, Fraction Bars and Auditory Problem solving.
THE BIG IDEAS
When students use Symphony Math,
they aren’t just practicing their facts,
they are mastering BIG IDEAS.
Conceptual Understanding
Students use different visual tools, like Dot Cards,
Number Lines, and Counting Bars. When they master
these tools, students connect them to traditional number
sentences, then use them to solve real-world problems.
Fluency
As well as a solid conceptual understanding of math
students need quick recall of common facts, promoted
through timed Mastery Rounds of basic addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Adaptive Branching
The program constantly adjusts the material provided
based on students performance. Struggling students are
automatically given extensive tasks that challenge them
to truly master the material, while those who have
mastered a concept move on more quickly.
Pen and Paper Practice
Worksheets are available for those who want extra or
extension skills practice.
