N- never skip a wordYou can often figure out the meaning of words you dont know by using other words as clues.Use what you know about root words, prefixes, and suffixes for help.If you skip words, or parts of a passage, you might miss a big part of the story.

O- order is importantPay attention to the order in which things happen.Notice words like first, next, then, and finally.It may help to read the story a second time. You can write notes on each event as it happens.

Even though the passage doesnt say so, you can guess that many people liked Abraham Lincoln.There isnt a sentence that says many people liked Lincoln, but you can believe it because of the many good things that Lincoln did.P- pay attention to purposeThink about the reasons someone might write the story that you are reading.Does the writer want you to learn something?Does the author want to entertain you?Is the writer trying to get you to think like he or she thinks (persuasion).
