Welcome! Salve – Welcome! Thank you for considering New Norcia as a possible venue for your wedding or special event. Bishop Rosendo Salvado founded this Benedictine Community in 1847. Over its long history New Norcia has been a mission, a vigorous farming enterprise and a place of education, spirituality and culture. Today, New Norcia still has a community of monks in residence, 27 heritage-listed buildings and a beautiful 20,000 acre working farm surrounding it, so we guarantee to provide you with a unique setting for your special day. This pack has all the information you need about holding your wedding or special event at New Norcia. For bookings or more information contact our Group Accommodation & Hospitality Manager. The contact details can be found in the last page of this information pack. We are excited about the prospect of holding your special day in this rare and beautiful place.

Wedding Ceremonies The community is obliged to follow the guidelines set down by the Archbishop of Perth. Generally one party should be catholic and neither party should have been previously married. In all other cases special permission from the Archbishop will have to be granted. Under government regulations more than one month’s prior notice is required. Couples may bring their own priest to New Norcia, or May apply to have a priest from New Norcia conduct the service. If you would like a priest from New Norcia to conduct the ceremony please contact Abbot John Herbert on john.herbert@newnorcia.wa.edu.au Wedding venues available are St Gertrude’s College Chapel (seats 80), St Ildephonsus’ College Chapel (seats 100) or the Abbey Church (seats 150). There is a fee for the hire of the chapels and Abbey Church see pricing on page 11. Wedding ceremonies are not permitted to be held in other locations (e.g. in the grounds or at the New Norcia Hotel etc).

Receptions & Special Events

There are several venues across town perfect for weddings, long table lunches, birthdays, baptisms, Christmas in July, conferences dinners, cocktail parties etc. With a range of unique indoor and outdoor venues, catering and accommodation options, you can decide how best to use New Norcia as the setting for your next special event. The most popular buildings are: The Arcades (behind St Ildephonsus’ College) St Ildephonsus’ Arcades is one of 27 heritage listed buildings in New Norcia. Built in 1914 as the venue for a newly introduced European game known as handball, the courts house two semi-enclosed Mediterranean inspired Arcades and are an idyllic place to hold a wedding reception or special event. The Northern Arcade is ideal for pre-dinner drinks and canapés, and the Southern Arcade can be set up for a maximum of 100 guests for dinner. This venue can be used in all seasons as we have see through arch panels to make it weather proof. New Norcia Hotel Welcoming guests since it was opened as a Hostel by Benedictine monks in 1927, this is no ordinary country pub. Exuding old world charm, the New Norcia Hotel provides a memorable setting for a special event. Areas include the:

Opened in 1908, St Gertrude's College offered boarding school education to young ladies under the guidance of the Josephite Sisters. Today, this grand building offers the perfect venue for a wedding reception or special event. There are two large halls that are well suited for large functions and can be set up for a maximum of 100 guests.

Catering, Drinks, Service & Equipment Catering

New Norcia has its own chef and kitchen crew who cater for events held in New Norcia. Each event can be individually designed to suit your wishes. We have enclosed some sample menus in this pack. Beverages All beverages need to be purchased through the New Norcia Hotel and they will be happy to work with you to create the package that you would like. Due to licensing, OHS and insurance guidelines New Norcia will provide bar staff for your event. (charges apply) Equipment We have a supply of 20 of trestle tables (seat 6), 7 large round tables that seat up to 10 people on each and also have 150 cream plastic chairs, plus crockery, cutlery and glasses. These are available to hire, alternatively, you are welcome to hire your equipment from a supplier of your own choice. New Norcia will set up the tables and chairs for the event, but the customer is responsible for additional set-up, including linen, decorations, table settings, chair covers, lights and flowers as well as clearing up after the event. New Norcia staff are available to help with the additional set up but an hourly rate will apply. (see page 11)

Photographer/ Videographer

Arrangements should be made with the presiding Priest for appropriate access without interference during the ceremony. Please remember that filming should be done in a respectful manner and that photographers should be appropriately dressed for the occasion.

Music

You are encouraged to use sacred or classical music for your wedding as some secular or concert music may not be appropriate. Please seek the advice of your Priest in regard to the selection of appropriate music. We can supply a cd player if required. However, you will need to arrange your own musicians and singers. We do have Dom Robert Nixon, a fine pianist and organist, who can be booked to perform at your wedding.

Accommodation

The New Norcia Hotel With its magnificent central staircase, pressed metal ceilings and heritage terrazzo tiles, the New Norcia Hotel is a feature in itself. Built in 1927, the Hotel exudes old world charm and offers comfortable accommodation for singles, couples and families. The Hotel has 15 rooms available for accommodation with shared bathroom/toilet facilities. Each room has overhead fans, a refrigerator and tea/coffee making facilities. The Old Convent The Old Convent is a courtyard complex tucked away in a secluded part of town. Originally, the home of Spanish Benedictine Sisters, the building is full of character; atmosphere and memories stretching back over 100 years. Today, the Old Convent offers: Cosy accommodation for 30 people (13 rooms with combination of 2, 3 and 4 beds per room) Large character lounge with a wood fire. Dining room and kitchen offering either catered meals or self-catering facilities. The building is heritage listed and has basic shared bedrooms and bathroom facilities. You will however find your accommodation to be simple, clean, and comfortable. A tour will allow you to see 'behind closed doors', hear the town’s fascinating story, visit the monk's own chapel within the monastery and view the beautiful murals in the college chapels - areas not otherwise accessible to the public. This can be conducted after the wedding ceremony and finish at the New Norcia Hotel for guests to enjoy a cool beverage! A visit to New Norcia would not be complete without a visit to the Museum & Art Gallery where you will find the largest collection of moveable religious heritage in Australia. Here you will find paintings by Spanish and Italian Masters and contemporary Australian artists, as well as gifts from the Queen of Spain and artifacts tracing New Norcia's eclectic 150 year old history.
