Our Sizzling Writing - Crow Moon

Sam W and Samuel - Crow Moon - Without warning, the promise of warmth passed slowly but surely for the tired resting crows. Inky, black swallows the bright gloomy moon. Danger looms below the old dead tree. Death approaches, crows scramble, the moon slowly, very slowly, turns into bright, beautiful sunshine. Death fades, into dust and peace returns to all the land. Crows rest, among the healed trees, while children run around on the soft green grass. All of a sudden, a whisper of smoke chuckled off in the distance, a much bigger threat, than death itself is coming… .. Michael - Crow Moon - On the inky black clifftops razor sharp beaks were flying through whispers of smoke, slowly disappearing in the glow of the fire. As the crows got weaker and weaker darkness grows and comes to life, as a nice trainer. As quick as a flash, they leave the inky black sky. Beside them flying in space, one crow followed in the darkness, flying and flying. No one realised the crow was gone!! Whatever could now be happening below the clifftop?? Noah and Daley - Crow Moon - In the blink of an eye, the inky, black night shadows were flickering in the woods, as death emerged and started to feast. As crows flew away some were eaten alive. As the little girl called for her tawny brown dog, eating the decomposing, midnight black crows. As candy red blood dripped from the dog’s mouth, death devoured the tawny dog. In the distance a flock of crows flew as fast as they could but they still were being devoured when the mother appeared, she tried to protect her children but was eaten herself by death. Brooke - Crow Moon - In the blink of an eye the mysterious, enticing shadow awoke from the depths. Taking over the beautiful land the darkness destroyed everything in its path. Crows started frantically fleeing the deep dark wood. Many were devoured and many survived….suddenly in the distance a whisper of smoke danced through the air. As the moon rises brighter than ever, the smoke got bigger and bigger to the point that it overthrew the darkness and peace was restored to the land. Montana - Crow Moon - As shadows came to life the moon brightens anxiously as crows appeared. Crows are the sign of death, what was coming next? Crows got weaker and weaker as time ticking by….then they fell to death. From there on, life was silent. Jayden - Crow Moon - The inky black clifftops stops crows with razor sharp teeth who were attacking their enemies. As red as the sun’s fire, it gets hotter and hotter, so that water disappears. The midnight black crow starts to attack the wolves.

Our Sizzling Writing - Mallee Sky Montana - Red heat of the day bleeds into the sky for ever reaching. We were in drought. As the trees stand grey, ghostlike, the dust storm swirled. Under the mallee sky was dry forever. But beneath the leaden sky and the dry land was a new world. One hot summer day at school we heard a drumming sound. It was rain!!! YYYYYEEEEESSSSS, life was fun, drinking deeply, everything was great again. Sam W - As the sun emerges from nowhere, the beaming light swallows the inky black darkness. Stepping into the harsh dry withering paddocks, the bright blue mallee sky peers down at the dead land and laughs in silence. Sparkling in the sunshine the precious water slowly and painfully drains from the drying dam, as if the water was the dam’s blood. A mysterious evil shadow loomed over the dead ghost town. Drip drop. The magical sound of water pounds the land with life. Ancient gums perish, inky sky more stars, shine clear night. A memory of themselves, turns to dust. Unrelenting blue sky selfishly laughs in silence, without warning ancient gums wither into dust. Sun goes down the inky sky comes up. Michael - Red heat of the day bleeds into the sky forever reaching. We were in drought. The trees won’t bloom again, stand grey ghostlike and red golden strange summer sky. Beneath the leaden sky, drifting away. The sun goes down, drumming the red heat of the day. While the heat shimmers away under the mallee sky. The next day the selfish blue sky, made up its mind and made the paddocks green like the blue wave sea. Without warning, the inly sky turned red. What ever could be happening? Dust twirls turning into a dust storm, quickly covering the crops. Daley - As the sun goes down, the blazing red heat of the day turns into night. As night appears the selfish, blue, summer sky drifts away into the clear night. I glance into the dry paddocks, as the cattle lay under the ancient gums, while the unrelenting sun cracks through the land. Jayden - The sun goes down, the red heat of the day bleeds into the sky under the mallee sky. Beneath the leaden sky, the sun beats down on the dry gums who gasp. Still and thirsty the animals were hot and could not find water, not even a puddle of water to drink. It was only just dust but the next day it started to rain heavier and heavier. A few days later it started to flood, the river filled up and flooded.

Our Sizzling Writing - Mallee Sky Samuel - Red heat of the day, the inky sky. Summer sky forever, dry forever. A house in the middle of Australia and the floor is orange forever. Dead trees because it never rains. Poor people who may have food but barely no water. They have enough food to feed their cows. Sad faces forever, never happy, no money, never able to pay their bills. Most people live on the outsides of Australia. But if they lived in the middle, it would be no fun at all. Sadness forever, dust storms swirl every day with no warning. Dust goes inside their eyes. Still and thirsty. They only have a bath outside in dirty water. But it works, such a small house nearly like one room. Their bed is never washed because they don’t have a washer or a dryer. But then it got stormy the clouds covered the sun and out came the rain. There first rain, now they have lots of water. The end. Tristan - As the sun emerges from nowhere, the beaming light swallows the inky, black darkness. Stepping into the harsh, dry, withering paddocks, the bright blue mallee peers down at the dead land and laughs in silence. Sparkling in the sunshine, the precious water slowly and painfully drains from the dying dam, as if the water was the dam’s blood. A mysterious, evil shad-ow loomed over the dead ghost town. Drip, drop. The magical sound of water pounds the land with life! Noah and Brooke - As the sun comes up, the red hot heat of the day bleeds into the mallee sky. Dry gums gasp as wicked dust storms swirl forever reaching into the bright blue. Ancient gums wither as a memory of themselves. Time stopped. Sun beats down on the cracking ground. The inky black sky shines more stars over the mallee. Heat shimmers as the dry gums drift away. Montana - Red heat of the day, bleeds into the sky forever reaching. We were in drought as the trees stand grey ghostlike, as the dust storm swirled. Under the mallee sky, the land was dry forever. Tristan Waiting for Wolf - Flying in the lapis sky, amongst the cotton, snow white clouds, Crow and Magpie were having the time of their life. They were weaving in and out of ancient trees, stealing food from humans. In a month, poor old Crow only had one more day to live. That same night Crow and Magpie were peacefully nesting in a majestic tree, Crow whispered to Magpie “tomorrow I will be as dead as a nail, but please remember our friendship which will never die”! As the honey, yellow sun gleefully peaked through the emerald green trees, Magpie looked all over the place for Crow. But she could not find him. Without thinking, Magpie screeched to Crow, as loud as she could, but there was no answer. Thinking all was lost, next moment, one majestic star came down and comforted her, as if the star wasn’t there. In a spilt second, the star was a mist, a glowing, vibrant mist. All of a sudden, the memories with Crow came flooding back. Magpie realised the two friends will stay together, no matter what! Tristan - Poetry In darkness Tiny shimmer Life Rising like a rocket Brighter and brighter It all came flooding back He reached Into darkness Willing something to happen.

Our Sizzling Writing - Horses Brooke - As a beautiful, white mare turned around, she realised her inky, black foal had disappeared in a shimmer of smoke. For the baby, it was too far to come home. All of a sudden, the scared baby heard a familiar sound. The minute he realised the sound was coming from his mother….. Samuel - In a dusty afternoon, suddenly horses were dashing through the wet foggy, gloomy paddock. They heard a roar! Through the trees they ran as fast as they could. They ran right through the fence, they felt so scared, as they ran off. Montana - As a beautiful, white mare turned she realised her ink black foal had disap-peared in a shimmer of smoke. The anxious mare galloped away as time ticked. The baby was too far to come home. All of a sudden the scared baby heard a familiar sound. Next minute he realised it was his mum! Tristan and Daley - Between the forest and sky, a mystical mist of majestic snow white horses galloped along. Just then, a pitch black foal emerged from the protection of the two white horses. Curiously, the young foal galloped as fast as he could, his beating hooves pounding the earth. As quick as a flash, a pack of devilish dingos emerged from the bush and vigorously tore the foal to pieces. Time froze, years past as a ghost like soul peacefully glided through the fields greeting all to the after life! Sam W - Fading in shadows, a pack of galloping horses trotted on the muddy, dirty clifftop. Running from death they fell from the perished cliff, and their souls repeated that same movement, over and over. After a while explorers searched the muddy, mouldy, moss clifftop until they found the “rested” pack of horses. As quick as a flash they ran away but had the same fate as the “rested” pack. Time froze, until 20 years past and deep in the forest of hope, there was a faint light of hope peering through the trees. Without a sound a ghost like figure dashed through the trees jumped over mossy, old, damaged rocks and leapt out of the deep forest. As quick as a flash the ghost like figure fell from the old damaged clifftop and perished into the deep fog below and unfroze time.

Learning with Mrs Powell

This week we are studying the text Red: A Crayon’s Story. For the text this week, students are learning about opinion writing. This story links with themes of being yourself, celebrating what you can do - not what you cannot do, never give up trying and do other’s opinions of you matter? Kindy writing: The students are focusing on using capital letters and full stops, finger spaces, sounding out words, using sight words and word walls, forming letters correctly, writing left to right and re-reading their work to check it makes sense. Year 1 writing: The students are focusing on sentence structure, using adjectives, punctu-ation, understanding the story and implementing it in the writing and have started to use sizzling starts. This week in Maths we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes, as well as time. The students can identify 2D shapes based on their properties, and had fun building 3D shapes blocks. The students identified that the most common 2D shape in the classroom is the rectangle. Kindy Maths: Time - we are learning about long/short time, ordering time events and days of the week. Year 1 Maths: Time - we are learning clock faces, analogue and digital time for o’clock and half-past time, days of the week and months of the year. The students have goals they are working towards and everyday show improvement in all areas. Keep up the great work!!! The students have achieved their 100 points! They will get to pick a prize from the prize box. This week I will be introducing De Bono’s 6 thinking hats into their learning. This is a technique for looking at decision making/ thinking from different points of view and it opens up the oppor-tunity for creativity within decision making/thinking. The students have been working in the garden with Mrs Drury, clearing out the overgrown vines. We are trying to decide what we will plant in the gardens for this time of year. Any suggestions will be appreciated…. The students are learning to sequence the days of the week and months of the year with our daily calendar. The students like Mrs Powell’s new snowman picture she drew on our calendar when we changed to the season winter. Thank you for your co-operation with our History unit by supplying information for our family trees. The students are engaged in their learning about changing families and families from the past and present. Week 5 awards from Mrs Powell: Arlo: Striving to earn more Dojo points Archie: Trying hard in all activities Kelsie: Writing great sentences and Reader of the Week. Hugo: Student of the Week and being a helpful classmate.
