The word Wassail comes from the old English term “waes hael”, meaning “be well”. At Christmas people went door

to door in their best bib and tucker carolling, bearing good wishes and a wassail bowl of hot, spiced ale and soggy toast! In return they were offered Christmas treats and

good luck for the year to come. I suspect that this is where our tradition of gift giving

at Christmas originated and traditions are worth maintaining. So if you rummage through these pages you

will find all you could wish for to dress warm and well, as well as some splendid ideas for gifts. In the spirit of the
