What do Harry Potter and mail have in common? For one, a letter of acceptance from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry changed his life. Also, throughout the story, he kept in close contact with his loved ones via owl post. And now in our Muggle (that’s ‘non-magic’ for you non-Harry Potter fans) world, you can find the boy wizard on stamps. That’s right, besides books and movies, you can experience Harry Potter through philately too!

Singapore Philatelic Museum’s first-ever Potter-themed exhibition brings together a comprehensive collection of Harry Potter stamps from all over the world, including Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Designed with attention to the finest details, each stamp lets you relive your favourite moments from Harry Potter.

Step further into the wizarding world with movie memorabilia and collectibles on loan from local Potterheads, including Jo Chua and Chin Xuan. Be dazzled by rare items suchas autographs of the actors in Dumbledore’s Army, a collector’s edition DVD set, a filmmaking book set complete with its own Monster Book of Monsters and a one-of-a-kind Diagon Alley made entirely of LEGO. Let your imagination take flight with familiar scenes and references to Harry Potter while opportunities for photos and play abound. The young-at-heart will be particularly thrilled by interactive multimedia exhibits developed by students from Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Interactive & Digital Media.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Chickens are the most common birds on earth. With over 20 billion chickens – there are about three for every one person. How did this unassuming animal that can hardly fly move from Asia to the four corners of the world?

To explain its popularity, let us travel back in time, tracing its roots from prehistory and across numerous civilisations to arrive at its supreme position today. This year of the rooster, check out Chicken & Egg: A Fowl Tale exhibition that will reveal the amazing journey of the humble chicken, from its early home in the tropical Asian forests to the tables of world cuisines.

Have fun learning through stamps as you discover the world around you! Preschool children can learn through purposeful play and interactive programmes such as Meet Mr Postman and My Fancy Postcard. Primary and secondary school students can discover more about their environment, learn about Singapore in the past and present, and also appreciate the world we live in through the beautifully designed stamps and engaging programmes. Colourful World of Stamps and Singapore in Stamps programmes give students the opportunity to explore, reflect, and build on what they learn in school.

Exhibition 2016At NSCC 2016, five gold award entries from secondary schools were shortlisted to take part in the FourNation Stamp Exhibition under the Youth Philately category. The exhibits were awarded the Silver Bronze, Silver and Large Silver Awards. CONGRATULATIONS!

ON ONThe Consulate-General of Singapore in Hong Kong organised its first-ever philatelic exhibition from 1 November to 2 December 2016. The exhibition was at Olympian City in Tai Kok Tsui, Citywalk in Tsuen Wan and E-max at KITEC in Kowloon Bay. Curated by Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM) and incorporating a Chinese translation by the Singapore Consulate-General, “The Singapore Journey: 50 Years through Stamps” philatelic exhibition featured a variety of stamps, philatelic materials and artefacts showcasing Singapore’s political, economic and social development, multi-ethnic culture, arts and crafts, and flora and fauna. You can view this exhibition at SPM from now until 25 June 2017.
