So, first... Protocol
• Protocols are rules for communication
• Our “network” is built on a protocol: IP
• Our “web” is built on a protocol: HTTP
• Our “mail” is built on a protocol: SMTP
• Our “chat” is built on a protocol: XMPP
So what else is there?
• Our “network” works pretty well now
• Our “web” gets versions now like Web 2.0
• Our “mail” is well... still just “mail”
• Our “chat” isn’t always XMPP because AIM, Yahoo, MSN, came before XMPP
