• Foundation programme• The Foundation programme provides the fundamental and broadband knowledge and skills to those who aspire to be involved in the field of

architecture and the built environment. It is a preparatory programme into the field of architecture and the built environment prior to continuing the tertiary level leading to a degree qualification. The programme encompasses all aspects of creative and critical thinking through design, theory and skill-based modules, understanding the historical background of the built environment, mathematics, its applications and other related aspects. It also serves as a catalyst to opening a student’s mind in order to adapt to the new field of knowledge.

• The Foundation programme is specifically designed for students to enter University immediately after high school. Equivalent to an STPM/ Yr12/‘A’ Levels qualification, students will access wide range of undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree programmes upon successful completion of the Foundation year.

• However, it is compulsory for students enrolling into a design or built environment related programme to undertake the Foundation programmeunless they have a portfolio for assessment of prior learning, demonstrating their grasp of basic skills.

• Every student of the Foundation programme will enter a stream related to their studies as they proceed to their degree programme. They won’t have to study subjects unrelated to their planned career line. Key focus for all Foundation programmes are on developing skills in ICT and creative skills.

• Students will learn to use both computer hardware and software. They will master computer technology related to business applications for activities such as presentations or writing reports as well as an understanding of technical softwares for website design, graphic design, photo editing, publishing, multimedia etc.

• The Foundation programme relies on intensive English training that is applied through communication modules of the programme. Native English speakers can spend more time on professional writing, reporting, creative writing, etc.

• Students who have completed a recognized STPM/ Yr12 /A’ Levels or equivalent higher certificate or diploma programme with the required subjects and credits may be exempted from the Foundation programme upon review of their past results or portfolio (where applicable).

• Diploma in Fine Art• The Diploma in fine Art offers three years study of Fine Art as an educational process which provides intuitive, conceptual and

philosophical investigations into life’s experiences. It provides opportunities for the students to develop creative skills and visual language to probe reality and express through the tangibility of form.

The academic programme which stresses critical and creative thinking along with strong studio-based studies, also offers the students an opportunity to examine the challenging human values and search for individual meaning in the form of contemporary orhistorical context.

•• The course begins with intensive work in drawing, painting, printmaking, figure drawing and non-traditional experimental projects to

expose the students to the visual language necessary for them to explore and realize their individual artistic development.

Advanced and in-depth studies are implemented progressively to enable the students to develop skills and techniques, and to express their ideas, perceptions, imaginations, responses and creativity.

• Diploma in Product Design• The Diploma in Product Design is a programme that develops student's capability in three-dimentional design. We are surrounded by

products - from the watch on your wrist and the furniture in your house to the car you drive. Product design also known as industrial design, is a subjects that allows you to conceptualise and design new consumer electronics - such as hand phones, audio and multimedia products - has created opportunities for designers who are able to generate new, innovative and creative ideas that can successfully compare internationally.

• A product designer gives form and function to a product. He gives a product an identity that can communicate to the customer andprovide a specific function. Student will gain and understanding of form and function, colour, market research and consumer demand, new technology, material and cultural studies. Students are exposed to a wide range of international projects ranging from electronic consumer products, furniture, lighting to toy design and packaging. Student will learn to execute projects in a professional manner from presentation sketches, research reports, visuals, computer generated 3D model and actual prototypes.

• Diploma in Graphic Design• The objective of the three-year course is to prepare students wishing to pursue professional careers in the graphic communication

industry. Its aim is to train competent graphic designers who are capable of meeting the client’s demands by providing the appropriate design solutions in their work place.

•• All students will learn manual skills and exploration of conventional and contemporary media in IT design. The course incorporates

areas such as advertising, corporate identity, illustration, computer graphics and photography in communication design. The students will be trained to master the skills of advanced computer software applications for Multimedia design and equipped with IT-basedknowledge. But above all, the emphasis is placed on the quality of inventiveness and critical thinking.

•• Career opportunities for graphic design graduates are excellent. They may take up positions like general graphic designers, publication

designers, promotional designers, information graphic designers, packaging designers, in-house graphic designers, display artists, art directors, visualizers, typographers, production supervisors, multi-media/ web-page designers, DTP layout artists, freelancers etc.

• Diploma in Fashion and Textile Design• The Textile and Fashion Design course caters for the needs of students interested in becoming textile or fashion designers. The three-

year Diploma course consists of two major paths in Textile Design and Fashion Design.

Textile Design provides training in conceptual development, creative interpretation and technical production, knowledge relevant and necessary in textile design industry, traditional design and local content will be emphasized. An industrial attachment and a practical workshop will further provide valuable practical experience to students.

• Fashion Design equips the students with fashion and textile knowledge, marketing and practical skills. Design concepts and technical skills are inter-dependent and mutually enhancing in the training approaches. The programme is structured to cover all aspects of fashion design from basic to advanced drafting, draping, construction and designing. Studio projects include functional to experimental clothing designs.

• Diploma in Illustration• The objective of the three-year course is to train creative and competent illustrators who are

capable of producing creative, innovative and high quality illustration work. The course emphasizes the manual expression skills, and the exploration of various media in illustration and advertising related drawings and paintings. At the same time, the course will take advantage of the computer aided design software and use them to further enhance the quality of creative illustration.

•• All illustration students will be required to go through the first common year of Foundation Studies

in art fundamentals and general communication studies. The main area of studies include descriptive illustration, expressive illustration and interpretative illustration where students will learn illustration skills ranging from realistic, analytical, interpretative to expressive approaches.

•• Students will begin with observational studies, then gradually moving towards the exploration of

idea and concepts. The students will also learn general graphic design, typography, visual layout, colour studies, photography, computer graphics, studio drawing, figure drawing, desktop publishing design, etc.

• Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia• Creative multimedia is the vehicle in which emerging technologies drive home the concept of multimedia

communications in business, art and design, entertainment and education.• The creative media and information businesses have always been a crucial contributor to the economy. Together,

the creative and media business sectors invest, produce and disseminate a huge array of content that educates, informs and entertains the public. It is this creative content that people are looking for when they are connecting to the Internet, activating their broadband connection, switching on their mobile phones or choosing a channel on their TV service.

• The creative and media sector is thus the true heart of the Information Society, as it represents the segment that is the most accessed, and most accessible by the masses. The emerging content provider in the Information Society will be a professional who understands the authoring process, and who is an expert in graphics, sound, video and text content production.

• This four year programme provides the students with a well-rounded knowledge on the four major components of creative multimedia:

• Pass SPM / SPMV with 2 principals / Foundation / Matriculation or equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian Government. Or Pass Diploma in related field or equivalent, recognized by the Government.

• This is a highly versatile, multi-disciplinary programme that provides the students with a comprehensive education in the principles and practices of multimedia design, production, management and evaluation.

• This degree also focuses on the integration of theory and technology, and their practical application to current and emerging industry trends. An important feature is practical problem solving in multi-disciplinary teams using current and emerging technologies. This programme simulates the practice in the multimedia industry and allows students to develop more specialised skills in their chosen areas of interest and professional development.

• Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Animation• The world of animation has diversified from film, TV, games and entertainment sectors to many

other industries. Digital animation is used for advanced training, simulation and planning programmes, medical diagnosis, interactive learning and architectural virtual walkthrough. Increasingly, advanced countries are outsourcing work to countries like Malaysia.

• The ever-growing animation industry has made headway into markets represented by the various fields of research such as behavioural analysis, architectural visualisation, and now, even in digital filmmaking.

• This programme explores the fundamental aspects of animation using contemporary approaches. This course will equip the graduates with the fundamentals and principles of classical animation, which will serve as a solid foundation for every type, kind and style of animation. They will learn of the history, style and culture of animation as well as the script-writing, narrative and storytelling skills required throughout an industry production pipeline. Students will also explore digital animation techniques using 3D and vector-graphics software, video and special effects techniques for creating stunning visuals for their animated projects and the necessary writing skills for the research and development of animation.

• The outline of this programme concentrates on all stages of the production process similar to the workflow practiced by professionals from related industries. Students will undergo a series of hands-on professional training to develop their skills in an industry-based learning system.

• MA in International Contemporary art and design practice

• This course provides the basis for a contemporary discourse centred on the notions of internationalism in the Creative Industry. A designer working in the field can communicate and have an actual dialogue with various parties on the other side of the world. This programme seeks to enable designers to pursue an MA whilst developing their work in the field at a distant site; as well as locally. The programme is based on individual projects. The initial submission for the pathway is to outline a proposal for projects that can be researched on; and developed at any chosen site. This is then completed in the advanced academic environment of the University

• Bachelor of Science (Architectural Studies)• The Bachelor of Science (Architecture Studies) is the first part of the Architect’s training. The three years delivered in this

programme precedes the final two years available in the Bachelor of Architecture. Professionally, architectural training requires a minimum of seven years and consists of three parts.

• The first two parts, comprising of five years of study, is completed in an academic institution. It consists of a three year Bachelor of Science degree (for Part I) followed by a two year study that confers a Bachelor of Architecture degree that is recognised professionally as Part II. Between the two parts, the University requires student to undertake a period of practical training ranging from six months to one year. The two parts, though conferring two different Bachelor’s degrees, at the end of the third and fifth study year, may be one continuous process.

• The curriculum is designed as one; meaning that many of the things taught in the fourth year through the Bachelor of Architecture are developments of things learnt in the third year. The third part is a two year period of practical training or working experience that enables a candidate to sit for the professional Part III Examination.

• Diploma in Interior Design• The course aims to equip students with the ability to make decisions and solve problems that interior designers are

confronted with. They receive education in both the aesthetic and technical aspects required for professional practice.

• Throughout the three-year course, students develop creative and innovative design abilities by working on individual projects which deal with the different aspects of theoretical, conceptual and practical design problems.

• Students will be exposed to complex problems of modern environments in the context of style, taste, culture and humanity. The Institute maintains a close relationship with the industrial sectors in the country and endeavours to keep abreast with current developments in design and technology.

• At the end of the three years course, students will be able to meet the challenges and demands of the design profession in an effective manner.
