License Renewals Business, dog and liquor license renewals will be in the mail soon. Business licenses expire June 1st and license holders may be subject to a late fee if not renewed by July 1st. Liquor licenses expire July 1st and the establishments are requested to have the building inspections scheduled and completed prior to the deadline. Any businesses that operate in the city limits and sell products for future delivery or provide a service of any kind are required to obtain a business license even if the physical loca-tion of the business is not in Warrensburg.
Summer months are a busy time for lawn services, tree trimming and asphalt repair in which case, require a city business li-cense. Solicitor licenses that canvass door to door and ice cream trucks require the individuals to provide a current photo and background information that is reviewed by the Police Department to help insure public safety. Residents may contact the City Collector at any time to verify if a business has a current license as this information is public record. Residents may see vendors set up on local parking lots selling produce. These vendors are exempt from local license regulations by the State of Missouri and are allowed to sell produce that is grown in Missouri.
Current dog licenses will expire June 1st and documentation of current rabies vaccination needs to be provided for all renewals. All dog owners in the city limits are required to obtain dog licenses. These licenses are needed for public safety to ensure that all dogs within the city have current rabies vaccination.
For questions or concerns about any license information, please contact Carl Larkerbrink, City Collector, at 660-747-9131 or visit City Hall at 102 South Holden Street.
Informational Codes Session On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, building inspection, zoning, code enforcement, property maintenance, fire and public works staff members will conduct an informational codes session for realtors, contractors, developers and business owners. The session will be held in the ABC Building at Grover Park from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Everyone involved in the City’s building and development industry is welcome and City staff will allow plenty of time for questions and discussion. Lunch will be provided by Jimmie John’s. For more information contact: Brett Penrose, Building Official, 660-747-9135, [email protected].

These are pre-storm shelters only, meaning they are not set up to house people long term. Plans are in place for an event requiring longer term sheltering.

Lifelong Learning at UCM invites you to our upcoming program:
Handcrafted American Artistry: Collecting Fenton Glass
Founded in 1905 by brothers Frank and John Fenton, the Fen-ton Art Glass Company was the largest manufacturer of handmade colored glass in the U.S. and renowned for its in-novative glass colors as well as hand-painted decorations on pressed and blown glassware.
At our May Lifelong Learning program, Melvin and Norma Lampton, Fenton glass specialists, will share their considera-ble knowledge about Fenton glass based on approximately thirty years of collecting antique glass. They will also discuss and display part of their extensive collection, which they ac-quired from flea markets and garage sales. Thus far, they have collected and re-sold nearly 3,200 pieces!
Initially the Lamptons focused on Fenton glass because of its beautiful colors. Later they began to acquire pieces made by other glass companies, such as Westmoreland, Cambridge, Imperial, Northwood, Waterford, Pilgrim Cameo and others. Melvin will explain the different types of glass, the different types of minerals used to make the glass and the various methods employed to make them.
Program participants are welcome to bring their pieces of glassware for the Lamptons to discuss, though they will not appraise the monetary value of the pieces brought in. As an added bonus, the Lamptons are graciously donating a piece of glassware for a door prize!
All Lifelong Learning programs are free and open to every-one. Please join us!

Clemens Receives UCM Outstanding Support Staff Award Marcia Clemens, administrative assistant in Extended Studies at the University of Central Missouri, received the UCM Outstanding Support Staff Member Award at the group’s annual breakfast April 16.
Annette Charles, chair of the awards committee, presented the award to Clemens, who was nominated by her peers. She was recognized for her dedication to assisting students, staff and faculty in a variety of ways and bringing a positive attitude and wealth of knowledge to all as-pects of her job.
Clemens joined the UCM staff in 1995 as an office professional in the Purchasing Office. She transferred to The Graduate School, serving as administrative assistant for 18 years until her reassign-ment to Extended Studies in July 2014.
The Support Staff Council is elected by and represents the non-exempt employees of the University of Central Missouri. The council considers items that originate within its membership or that are referred by its constituency or the university admin-istration, serving as a medium for improving communication and as liaison between non-exempt employees and the university administration.
Winn, Shepard Named Recipients of UCM’s Charno Award Aubrey Winn, a public relations major from Macon, and Tyler Shepard, an elementary education major from Sedalia, have been named the 2015 recipients of the University of Central Missouri’s prestigious Charno Award. The award is presented annually to the top male and female members of the senior class at UCM.
Winn, the daughter of Vince Winn, Macon, and Gaylynn Driver, St. Petersburg, Fla., is a 2011 graduate of Hickman High school, Columbia. During her career at UCM, she served as vice president of the United Student Housing Association, fa-cilitator for the IMPACT freshman leadership retreat for three years, secretary of Rho Lambda honor society, and public relations chair of the Big Pink volleyball tournament committee. She also served as vice president of recruitment for the Panhellenic Council; Homecoming Service Day site leader; vice president of Greek life for R.Ed Lead Team, the Office of Alumni Relations student marketing team; and fundraising chair and president of the UCM chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. In addition, Winn belongs to the Order of Omega honor society and has served the community with the Nehemi-ah Feeding Program. She has participated in many fraternal leadership conferences and institutes along the way and has worked both off and on campus throughout her collegiate career.
Shepard, the son of James and Kelly McFatrich, Sedalia and David Shepard, Farmington, has participated in the Mule Haul during fall semester move-in day and has served as an MLK Day of Service site leader. He has served as a fall semester Week of Welcome leader and freshman orientation leader, and also has served as a coordinator for the Homecoming Leadership Committee. He has been a member of the Spotlight, the UCM Student Activities programming group, since 2012, serving as Late Night coordinator and vice president of marketing. While at UCM, Shepard participated in intramu-ral sports, served as a youth leader for the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church MPACT Youth Group, and assisted
with the elementary reading summer camp. He has been member of The Honors College at UCM for four years while working jobs on and off campus.
The Charno Award is named for George Charno, Sr., a Kansas City attorney who estab-lished the award in 1940 to recognize the outstanding male member of the graduating class. The companion award for the outstanding female class member was established in 1941.
Aubrey Winn, left, and Tyler Shepard, right, are congratulated by UCM President Chuck Ambrose after they were named the recipients of the 2015 Charno Award.
Marcia Clemens, third from left, recently received the UCM Out-standing Support Staff Member Award.
Joining her in the presentation were members of the Awards Committee, left to right, Kim Courtwright, Susie Pine, Annette
Charles, Trish Hubbard and Anjanell Parsons.

WEEKLY POSITIVE NETWORKING® TIP + Let’s Banish Anonymity This past weekend, while visiting her bank to deal with a credit card problem, Gayle had an interesting experience with a teller (customer service rep). At the end of their time together she thanked the teller for her help, and the teller responded “You’re welcome, Gayle.”
Gayle told us after: "It was kind of weird, hearing my name--but in a good way. This small gesture of acknowledging me by name stuck with me. What a simple but smart thing to do. I am sure there are people who don’t want to be acknowledged, but I think most of us do."
When a person takes your credit card or sees your name on your corporate name tag, or even takes your business card, responding by using their name creates a connection. In a world where people feel less connected, this is a simple thing we can all do, and train our staff to do as well.
