Lewis Holland

Athlete Biography

Lewis Holland was an impressive rugby player in high school, representing both his state and

country in 2010 as a member of the Australian Schoolboys team. The 23-year-old joined the

Brumbies Academy when he graduated school, playing 15s before he turned his attention to

sevens at the age of 18.

The ball-player made his debut with the Australian Men’s Rugby Sevens team in 2011. The same

year he represented Australia at the Commonwealth Youth Games on the Isle of Man, coming

home with the bronze medal.

Born in Braidwood, Holland was named in the Under 20s squad that competed in the Junior World

Championships in South Africa in 2012. He competed in almost every major tournament in the

2012-13 Sevens World Series and made his World Cup debut in Moscow, 2013.

A hamstring injury saw Holland miss out on the 2014 Commonwealth Games, yet a strong 2015-16

season – including a starring role in the inaugural Sydney 7s - secured Holland’s spot in the 䘀쐂nal

squad for Rio.

Holland will make his Olympic debut in Rio alongside partner Charlotte Caslick, who is also

contending her maiden Games with the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens Team.

Team.

Parahi grew up playing both rugby league and union. He stopped playing league at 18 to focus on

his sevens career, a move that paid o䘀䤃 when he made his international debut in Edinburgh in 2010.

The 2012 RUPA Rugby Sevens Excellence Award recipient helped Australia win bronze at the 2014

Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

One of Jesse’s most memorable moments in an Australian Sevens jersey was in October 2013 when

he crossed over in sudden-death extra-time against South Africa in the Gold Coast Cup Semi-Finals

to secure the win.

Parahi and his wife Carlien run an occupational therapy program - Sense Rugby - created to help

kids who usually 䘀쐂nd it di䘀朄cult to be part of a sports team get involved in sport and physical

activity.

John Porch

Athlete Biography

One of the newest members in the Australian men’s rugby sevens program John Porch will

represent his nation at the Rio Olympic Games in the same year he made his international debut.

Porch was a member of the Australian Schoolboys and NSW team in 2012. He wore the green and

gold jersey as an un-contracted player for a tour of New Zealand in September 2015.

He signed his 瘾룞rst Australian Sevens contract not long after having impressed the national

coaching sta⻆읋 with a string of 瘾룞ne performances for the North Harbour Rays in the 2015 National

Rugby Championship. ?

The 磘콢yer from Orange in Central West New South Wales made his Australian Sevens debut in

Wellington in January 2016, helping his country to a hard-earned 瘾룞fth place 瘾룞nish.

The 22-year-old was told he would probably never play rugby again after a compound fracture to

his ankle in 2013. However, he was back on the 瘾룞eld after 10 months of rehabilitation, making his

Olympic debut all the sweeter.

Athlete Biography

James Stannard is Australia’s all-time leading World Series scorer having overtaken Peter Miller’s

He played for Super Rugby side the Western Force in 2008 before lining up for the ACT Brumbies in

national sevens team debut in 2010 before winning silver with the team at the Delhi

Commonwealth Games later that year.

He played for the Force again in 2011-12 before taking up a contract to play in Japan in the 䵉fteen-

man format in 2012. He was back playing sevens for Australia in early 2013 and won a bronze medal

with the Australian side at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
