Calvary Domaniza

Architectural design - Restoration of Monuments

cooperation with Petra Hagarová

3th year of study

2009/2010

Church in Domaniža, near Považská Bystrica, Slovakia is a place of pil-

grimage. A local priest wants to support this place by creating a Cal-

vary to attract more pilgrims.

So our Calvary is mainly for pilgrims who want to go through the

Christ Way of the Cross.

The small Way of the Cross, from rectory to the church, is mostly for

local people.

I: Jesus is condemned to death

The first station expresses Jesus’humility by quotations from the Bible,

where He humbly accepts his fate. This fact is trying to make a symbol of

kneeling figures making up the holes of wooden screens.

Page 17: Architectural portfolio
Page 18: Architectural portfolio
Page 19: Architectural portfolio

VIII: Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem

This station is located below the ground, while from the ceiling through the

roof cuts of tears rays light - tears of sun, showing the women weeping

over Jesus suffering, but also a symbolic cry of light – the cry of God.

Page 20: Architectural portfolio

XI: Jesus is nailed to the cross

The station is constructed with a wooden screen, behind it, there is an el-

evated platform from which a crack in the shape of a cross begins. This

cross represents the crucifixion act.

Memorial monument, Slavín

artwork in architecture

4th year of study

2008/2009

Slavín is a memorial monument and military cemetery in Bratis-

lava, the capital of Slovakia. It is the burial ground of thousands

of Soviet Army soldiers who fell during World War II while liber-

ating the city in April 1945.

Goal of the subject Artwork in Architecture was to redesign the

existing monument and cemetery.

Memories, Light at the end of tunnel (tower), Garden of Eden,

these are few terms connected with dying, death and afterlife.

Forms of these parts of memorial were created by deforming

symbols: Jewish star, Swastika, Slovak double cross.

Vajnory, part of the city Bratislava, are known as a wine region

with the Smallcarpathian Wine Route. In our design it reflects in

the creation of the promenade over the wine cellar and wine

shops and also in the structure of urban planning.

Pavilion Kollárovo square

Tectonics in architecture

5th year of study

2009/2010

Kollarovo square in Bratislava is in a dilapidated condition and needs a re-

construction. In one corner, there is a smelly public toilet not in a good

condition. And on the other side, there is a new office building, which

brings nothing positive to the public space.

New pavilion responds to the movement of pedestrians and in the inter-

section of main movements creates valuable public spaces for culture, free

time and coffee breaks.

Gap site, Gorkého street

The building is located near the town centre

of Bratislava, Slovak republic. Near is a his-

toric theatre of Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav. I

want to reflect the relationship between the

building and the theatre through a glazed

facade with reflective glazing.

Basic mass of the building is based on a solar shell, which is a ficti-

tious and spatial regulative defining the maximum of a building

volume, which does not prevent access to direct sunlight around in

your chosen timeframe.

Museum of vulcanoes, Lanzarote

Island Lanzarote is a Spanish island, the

easternmost of the autonomous Canary

Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, approxi-

mately 125 km off the coast of Africa. A

museum is located in the National park

Tymanfaya, which was created by volcanic

eruptions. So the national park is an open

book of geology and volcanology.

Page 57: Architectural portfolio
Page 58: Architectural portfolio
Page 59: Architectural portfolio

The main scope of the museum is volcanoes and its two

ways of presenting them. The first part of the museum

is located below the ground; this is the information sec-

tion of exhibition. The second is in a look-out, from which

there is a beautiful view of the national park with its

volcanoes.

Flood wall, built on the Danube riverside, fulfills its function, but

when you sit on the bench, you don´t see water, but flood wall.

So non-profit organization PUNKT has organized a competition,

which goal was to design an observation bench.

The proposed bench is a bar type, located in the flood wall. The

long promenade has a regular rhythm, consisting of existing

benches and lamps. The current rhythm, which is functional but

boring, we wanted to incorporate with color and irregularity.
