OUR FRP PRODUCT LINE A new generation in the market

When we designed this new cable management and multidiscipline support system we had one thing in mind:

To be Simply the Best, in FRP products. With over 30 years experience as the world leader in the supply of cable

support systems, we had evaluated market trends, customer requirements, designs and cost factors.

With all these factors in mind, we have created a full range of products that are user-friendly and cost-efficient

with a unique high strength solution in today’s market. Combined with creative user-friendly fittings and smart

accessories you can see why Oglaend System is Simply the Best!

Gunnstein Austigard, the founder of Oglaend System, is at the helm of the concept and designs again.

He is here seen on the left participating with Fraser Campbell, Managing Director of our Malaysian manufacturing operation planning and designing our new range of FRP.

Arne Gya and Stian Knudsen in the R&D department on the right.

Pultrusion is a continuous process of roving or mat/roving bundles, which are drawn through a resin impregnated bath to coat each fiber with a specially formulated resin mixture. The impregnated fibers are then drawn through a heated die which forms the desired cross section. Curing of the thermosetting resin is initiated by heat in the die and catalyst in the resin. The rate of reaction is controlled by heating the die. The resulting high uni-directional strength profile is cut to length and ready to be used in the Oglaend System FRP Cable Management and Multidiscipline Support system.

FROM CONCEPT TO INSTALLATION

Our standard riser using 45° splice angle plate.

See our riser buildingprinciples using 22.5°, 30° and 45° splice angle plates on page 17 and standard risers on page 19. The vertical hinge allows

free adjustments in steps of 4°. See both page 6 and 16.

Study the various fixing clamps on page 22.

Standard Tees are easily assembled in any combination of widths need.

Simply the Best: Encouraged by the market response towards our new line of FRP products which took one year from concept to

installation, Oglaend System secured the first of many large orders in 2006, one being British Gas Tapti.

Right from the beginning, the client and EPC contractor could clearly identify numerous benefits, not only

cost-wise, but more importantly from the engineering/installation angle, its limited space and flexibility requirement

was the key to a successful installation. BG Tapti used Oglaend System’s FOE150 heavy duty ladder and most of

the unique Oglaend System accessories. Some of these items can be seen below.

With smart solutions from Oglaend System, you can reduce cost and aid installation. Together with our satisfied

customers, our engineering/design team has developed a well-known technology into Simply the Best!

For pultruded products there is no difference between FRP and GRP.

TENSILE LOAD

Use Oglaend System’s self-locking flange nut when mounting splice plates to our FRP ladder or tray system. This prevents joints from loosening in case of vibration.

Ask for separate brochure or download at www.oglaend-system.com

FRP self-lock system includes vibration-proof bolt sets

7

Our patented SmartLok P rung insertWith its fire retardant, low smoke halogen free properties, this clip with its glass reinforced sides, fits neatly into the rung by simply squeezing the end of the clip together and pushed into the rung.

The clip is locked into place by the glass reinforced taps on each side, and the screw is then inserted through the channel into the clip, preventing any type of pull out.

Finally the trim-edge on the ladder profile will fix the rung in position and prevent any rung rollover when cables are pulled.

Tensile loading on Side Profile: FOE-150 NR LadderAlways striving to be Simply the Best, Oglaend System continuously improves its product wherever possible, and in recent tests our ladders achieved a point loading of over 480kgs with rung and SmartLok insert still intact and func-tional.

TRADITIONALThe nut is moveable during vibrations because of side wards thread gap.

OUR STANDARD:The nut is locked during vibrations because all thread contact stops side wards movement.

Storage and Handling Tips

1. FRP/GRP non-metallic cable tray can be stored outdoor but it is always best practice to keep it covered where possible. Product should be elevated off the ground and at an angle to prevent water build-up or other foreign objects staining or bonding to cable ladder.

2. If appearance is important, FRP/GRP products should be stored indoors.

3. FRP/GRP should be kept away from high traffic areas and should be palletized by width and type.

4. If hand unloading, workers should wear gloves and if necessary glasses too.

5. To prevent damages, never pull from the truck by chaining to bottom rung and pulling out of truck as this may cause serious damage.

45

1. Always observe common safety procedures. When a circular power saw is used, always wear safety glasses, suitable dust mask and gloves.

2. Overalls or suitable clothing would also protect the operator during sawing or cutting, machining or sanding operations. Although the dust created is non-toxic and presents no serious health issues, it can cause skin irritation. The amount of irritant varies among different individuals and can be reduced or eliminated by use of protective clothing and/or protective creams.

3. Avoid excessive pressure when sawing or drilling. Excessive force can wear the tooling down (Diamond or carbide grit edged saw blades, carbide tip drill bits are best suited for fiberglass).

4. Refrain from generating excessive heat in any sawing or drilling operation. Excessive heat softens the resin thus resulting in a rough rather

Installation GuidelinesOGLAENDS FRP/GRP system offers the best possible protection for today’s demanding environment. To prolong the service life of the product it should be installed in compliance with the standards set forth by the National Electric Code and NEMA Publications FG-1 (current issue).

than a clean edge. Excessive heat will burn resin and fiberglass.

5. Support the fiberglass profile material rigidly during the cutting or drilling process. Movements may cause chipping at the profile edges.

6. Always touch-up or seal any cut surfaces or edges of the fiberglass shape before installing as this will prolong the service life.

7. When installing cable ladder or tray product from Oglaend, ensure that you use original parts which make up part or all of the main support system, for example splice plates, fittings, fixing clamps and FRP supports. The use of non Oglaend’s product in your management system could affect the loading performance and warranty of the total system.

WARNING! Not to be used as a walkway, ladder or support for personnel. To be used only as a mechanical support for cables and tubing.

Cable ladders are designed as a support for power or control cables, or both and is not intended or designed to be a walkway for personnel.

6. Special care must be taken when slings are used to prevent ladder or tray from crushing as a result of improper handling.

7. Avoid using any chemical cleaning agents to clean the surface of the product. If the products requires cleaning use water first or contact the manufacturer for advice.

8. The recommended number of standard 3m/10ft (long) x 900mm/36” (wide) x 150mm/6” (height) ladder/tray should be 10 per pallet, for 100mm/4” high profile it should be 16 per pallet (Guide only).

9. If you are required to re-band the ladders please exercise care when using steel banding/strapping or use plastic to avoid damaging the product during transit.
