*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively)

Come from near and far. Come and hear of God’s love.

We have heard whispers that we are God’s beloved.

Come closer. Come into this. Come closer.

Come aching hearts! Come soldiers of joy, midwives of truth.

Come true‐of‐heart.

There is joy in how our mouths dance with our teeth.

Our mouths are a sign of how sacred our lives truly are.

God dreamt of making something of worth.

God woke from her dreams, scraped the soil from the spaces inside herself,

and then made us, and was happy.

We make God happy.

There is a doorknob glowing like chance.

Clutch it. Turn and pull. Step through. Eyes open. Hearts loud.

Let us walk through this together.

Let us worship the living God.

*HYMN#17 “Sing Praise to God, You Heavens” Johann Steurlein, 1575

*CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER (unison)

Holy God, how great is the mystery of our faith, how deep are your purposes.

In birth and aging, life and death, you are glimpsed, yet never understood!

We are assembled in this place, attracted by life’s deepest claim. We wait with

needs and hopes we cannot name. We thirst for healing, truth, and grace.

Come, walk among us, Holy Friend. We are gathered and ready. May our

scattered lives meet and mend through open Word and table shared. Amen.

*WORDS OF AFFIRMATION

Even before we can stammer our needs,

the Compassionate Presence is moving towards us, closer than our own breath.

Because God delights in us. We make God happy.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE #581 Gloria Patri

CALL FOR OFFERING

OFFERTORY “Come Holy Ghost God & Lord” by Andreas Armsdorf

*DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (unison)

HYMN#462 (vs.1) “I Love to Tell the Story”

I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his

love. I love to tell the story, because I know ‘tis true; it satisfies my longings as nothing

else could do. I love to tell the story; ‘till be my theme in glory to tell the old, old story of

Jesus and his love.

FIRST SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 148

This is the word of the Lord! Thanks be to God!

ANTHEM “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name” by Tom Fettke

SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: Acts 11:1-18

Holy Wisdom, Holy Word, Thanks be to God!

SERMON: “Telling A Story That Changes Everything” Rev. Bentley Stewart

*HYMN #754 “Help Us Accept Each Other” by Doreen Potter, 1974

PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE

O God of visions and radical hospitality,

Deliver us from our bondage

To old and toxic narratives

And go with us in a new exodus

Towards creating liberating stories

Of bread shared

And swords become plowshares;

Of bodies healed

And spirits restored;

Of songs sung

And justice done;

Of laughter in the night.

And joy in the morning;

Of love through all seasons

And great gladness of heart;

Of all people coming together

And your peace emerging among us;

Of your name being praised

And we becoming a chorus of alleluias,

Through Jesus the Christ, who taught us to pray saying:

Our Father who art in heaven….CHORAL RESPONSE

*HYMN #100 “Canticle of the Turning” Irish Melody; arr. Rory Cooney, 1990
