Training our eyes to see through the rough stable, the adolescent mother, and the anxious escape to Egypt, we can see in that poverty and powerlessness the wonder of God's abundant life and grace coming down to dwell among us. As we turn our focus to Christs humble birth, the life he lived and his promise to return, may we truly grasp what it means to embrace, engage, encourage and energize one another as we prepare to celebrate Gods greatest gift ever given. “Growing Deeper, Reaching Higher, Rooted in God’s Love” Welcome New Members! Advent begins December 2 and lasts for 4 Sundays, ushering us into

Christmastide (the 12 Days of Christmas). But Advent is meant to be so

much more. It is a season when we, the Body of Christ, share an intentional

preparation for Christ’s return. The prophet, Isaiah, will be our guide each

week as we consider the “Newness” that is offered through Jesus Christ.

For those of you looking for an Advent Devotional for yourself or small

group, please know our sermon series, “Making All Things New,” will

reference Celebrating Abundance: Devotions for Advent by Walter

Brueggemann.

Consider this excerpt:

Layer upon layer of tinsel, lights, chocolate drizzle, and wrapping

paper create the illusion of abundance, disguising the feeling of

emptiness in our souls. The arrival of the Messiah, by contrast, is

true abundance disguised by the impression of scarcity. Training our

eyes to see through the rough stable, the adolescent mother, and the

anxious escape to Egypt, we can see in that poverty and

powerlessness the wonder of God's abundant life and grace coming

down to dwell among us.

As we turn our focus to Christ’s humble birth, the life he lived and his

promise to return, may we truly grasp what it means to embrace, engage,

encourage and energize one another as we prepare to celebrate God’s

greatest gift ever given.

Well it’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. I must admit one of my favorite times of the year is walking into our church facility after the decorating for the Advent/Christmas season has been completed. Thank you to everyone who assisted with “Hanging the Greens.” I’ll bet as usual, there are way too many to list names. On Sunday, December 2nd, the choir will make their yearly trip to Glenmora to sing the Christmas Musical, “Silent Night, Holy Night.” Sharing Christmas music with a congregation that has very little music for their services all year long is a real highlight for us and Glenmora. We sing the musical, then sing some Christmas Carols/songs, and then we eat. And boy, do we eat. You are invited to come and join us at Glenmora for music, food and fellowship. We sing at 5 P.M. Sunday, December 9th is Home for the Holidays at 6 P.M. For those of you familiar with this program share with others and bring them along. You’ll hear new and old songs. We’ll have a special guest, sing and laugh together. Hope to see you there. Sunday, December 16th the Choir will sing the musical at the 8:30 and 11:00 A.M. services. You will read much more about all the great things happening at Pineville FUMC. Merry Christmas, Judy and George

UPCOMING DECEMBER EVENTS

The mission of the church is—“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Your pastors are consistently encouraged to, “keep nothing sacred but the mission.” To ensure our mission of

making disciples is paramount, our church-wide focus for 2019 is E4=1. This emphasis is the result of your entire program staff praying, working, and planning together. Our biblical foundation is Ephesians 4:4, “There is one body and one Spirit; just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” Preaching and worship, as well as children and youth ministries, will center around the following four (4) E’s…

“EMBRACE”—to know God’s love and meet God’s family “ENGAGE”—to trust God’s character and experience God’s family “ENCOURAGE”—to know your faith and to value the faith of God’s family “ENERGIZE”—to live an authentic faith

Our prayer is that these 4 E’s will help us in becoming 1—united in Christ “for the making of disciples for the transformation of the world.”

Look for it! More to come-- E4=1

The Youth were busy through November with Junior High Retreat, Sushi Sunday, the Operation Christmas Child Lock In, Pumpkin Pie Baking & delivery to our Homebound Members and finally they helped with Advent Decorating and then went bowling together. December will be a little quieter, but just a little. These students never cease to amaze me. Their love for God & faithfulness to serving others inspire me.
