Plumbing Leak Detection Solutions

Please note: With the exception of the RS-095 simple alarm, all of the following RDT/FloodMaster products feature a dry contact that allows for easy integration into a security system or appropriate relay for protection beyond the provided audio alarm and shut-off functionality.

Simple Battery-Operated Alarms:

RS-095 Battery-Powered Water Alarm – The FloodMaster RS-095 sounds an alarm when the reusable sensor comes in contact with as little as 1/32” of water. Powered by a single 9 V battery.

Simple Plug-In Alarms:

RS-096 Plug-In Water Alarm – The FloodMaster RS-096 is powered by a standard power outlet and sounds an alarm when the reusable sensor comes in contact with as little as 1/16” of water.

RS-097 HVAC/Air Conditioner Condensate Pan Overflow Alarm – Likewise, the FloodMaster RS-097 sounds an alarm when the reusable sensor comes in contact with water. This model is specially designed for air conditioning, HVAC, HVACR and water chiller condensate pans. It features an elevated (1/2” stand-off) sensor that will allow a normal amount of water to accumulate in the pan, but will activate the system in a near-overflow situation. A signal wire can be run through an appropriate relay (not included) to turn off the HVAC unit when the alarm is activated to prevent further leaking.

Appliance-Based Systems:

RS-094 Water Heater Leak Detection and Automatic Shut-Off System – FloodMaster model RS-094 features a full-port, lead-free ANSI/NSF 61 Annex G valve in the following sizes: 1/2”, 3/4”, 1” and 1-1/4”. Simply install the valve to the feed water line for the tank or tankless unit and place a sensor puck on the floor or in the pan under the tank. The reusable sensor will activate when it comes into contact with as little as 1/16” of water. When it detects leaking water, the system will sound an alarm and automatically shut off the feed water intake to the water heater. RS-094-MK6 Kit for Plenum Spaces – This kit includes a 3/4” shut-off valve, receiver and sensor, plus a step-down transformer (120, 208 or 240 VAC to 24 VAC) and plenum-rated wires to the sensor and transformer. It is ideal for tanks located in the space between the structural ceiling and the dropped ceiling, where the scale of the damage from an undetected leak can be even greater.

RS-094-MK1 Kit for Perimeter Coverage – This kit includes a 3/4″ shut-off valve, receiver, power plug and 10′ long rope-style sensor in lieu of a standard puck-style sensor, making it ideal for perimeter coverage and monitoring low-profile tanks. Additional 10′ rope sensor lengths (P/N RSA-175-010) are available for a wider area of leak detection.

RS-092 Hose-Fed Appliance Leak Detection and Automatic Shut-Off System – The FloodMaster RS-092 features a 1/2” valve, a pair of 3/8” fittings and a 10’ sensing cable. The unit protects against unpredictable leaks in hose-fed appliances such as dishwashers, ice makers, RO systems and beverage dispensers. These leaks are often hidden from view and can cause substantial flooding and property damage if allowed to run for more than even just a few minutes’ time. Choose from a standard 120 VAC wall wart (MK1 kit) or a 120, 208 or 240 VAC to 24 VAC step-down transformer with mounting plate (MK2 kit) to hard-wire and power the system.

RS-090 Washing Machine Leak Detection and Automatic Shut-Off System – The FloodMaster RS-090 features a 3/4” dual-port valve with brass fittings and (2) high-pressure stainless steel hoses. The unit is most commonly installed in conjunction with residential washing machines, inline between the hot and cold water lines and the water line connections on the washer. Place a reusable sensor puck on the floor next to the washing machine. When the sensor detects leaking water, the dual valve will automatically shut off both the hot and cold water supply lines and sound an alarm.

Full-Facility / “Whole House” Systems:

RS-080 Leak Detection and Automatic Total Water Main Shut-Off System – FloodMaster model RS-080 is designed for localized leak detection (one room or one floor) and the complete shut-off of the water main to the entire building or facility plumbing section. When a wired sensor puck comes in contact with water, the system will automatically shut down the water main line and sound an alarm, thus helping prevent extensive water damage. Specific model selection is based on the valve size required to interface to the designated water main pipe. Standard valve sizes are 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4”, 1-1/2”, 2”, 2-1/2”, 3” and 4”. The system can support up to 6 wired sensors and features a remote manual override control.

RS-360 Wireless Leak Detection and Automatic Total Water Main Shut-Off System – This cutting-edge system from RDT features the latest in wireless technology. The RS-360 includes dual-function sensors that monitor for both plumbing leaks and near-freezing temperatures across an entire facility or home, including multiple floors or levels. If a leak or low temperature is detected, an alarm sounds and the valve shuts off the water supply to the entire building or facility plumbing section – stopping potentially catastrophic leaks and preventing frozen/burst pipes.

The wireless sensors communicate with the controller/valve actuator over a closed-loop RF frequency, which keeps the system working even when power and Wi-Fi are lost. Automatic system self-test and smart diagnostics provide positive confirmation that the sensor network is intact and operating correctly at all times. The wireless signal range is 100’ between the sensor(s) and the wireless receiver. The RS-360 features onboard battery backup that provides up to 48 hours of ongoing protection during a power outage. Standard valve sizes are 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4”, 1-1/2” and 2”, 2-1/2”, 3” and 4”. The system can support up to 80 wireless sensors and features a remote manual override control.

RSA-175-810 Sensing Rope Kit – The Sensing Rope can be used in place of or in tandem with traditional FloodMaster wired sensor “pucks.” This rope-style sensor is Ideal for use with low tanks, or for room perimeter and sub-floor leak detection applications. Kit includes one 10′ length of rope; snap-fit additional lengths (RSA-175-010) for up to 100′ of coverage.

RSA-360-001 Additional Wireless Sensors – For use with the wireless RS-360 system. Each system accommodates up to 80 total sensors.

RSA-360-810 Satellite Sensor Wire Rope Kit – For use with the wireless RS-360 system. Use this rope-style sensor in conjunction with a wireless sensor for hard-to-reach locations (under a fridge or dishwasher); discreet sensing in areas where aesthetics are key; or applications where perimeter coverage is preferable to a single point of contact. Kit includes one 10′ length of rope; snap-fit additional lengths (RSA-175-010) for up to 100′ of coverage.

RSA-360-200 Wireless Signal Repeater – Boosts signal performance between wireless sensors and the receiver in RS-360 systems.

SMS messages are sent over the reliable Verizon network (additional $49.00 annual cellular contract required).

RSA-600-003 Auto Dialer Phone Call Notification System – A convenient, low-cost add-on to send and receive automatic phone call alerts whenever your RS-360 or FloodMaster RS-0XX system identifies a fault condition.

RSA-500-050 and RSA-500-100 Hard-Wired and Wireless Water Switches – These wall switches allow RS-360 system users to manually override system functionality and close the valve to shut off water flow, eliminating any chance of water damage.

What to Consider When Specifying

What is your client trying to achieve? The following should be considered when selecting the proper product or system for your application and requirements:

• Valve size – 3/4” to 4” available

• Number of sensors –

o Wired kits support up to 6 sensors

o Wireless kits support up to 80 sensors

• Desired automated response –

o Notification (via security panel, home automation platform or text message / phone call accessories)

o Shut off the water supply to the building, floor, room, appliance, etc.

o Audible alarm only

o Secondary device control via relay – turn off an AC unit, turn on a signal light, turn off a pump, etc.

• Location – Plenum spaces may warrant special consideration to comply with national electrical codes.

Technical Notes About RDT Systems

• The sensors are reusable and are built around conductivity technology. In addition to water, detect the presence of as little as 1/16” of any non-flammable, conductive liquid (> 1 megohm).*

• Audible alarms sound at 83 dB.*

• All products are low-voltage devices – 12 or 24 V.*

• Systems are powered by common 120 VAC wall outlets (UL approved).*

• No electrical wiring is required for installation.

• Potable water valves are lead-free ANSI 61/Annex G.
