ADMISSION PROCESS – REGULAR EDUCATION STUDENT

• A COMPLETED application must be signed by the school administrator and electronically submitted to Mr. Bayless. Mr. Bayless will forward the application to Mrs. Love, Transition Coordinator. Incomplete applications will be returned to the home school for revision.

• The Review Board which consists of Dr. Dain Butler, Mr. Michael Bayless, Mrs. Debra Sparks and Mrs. Lakecia Love. Principals will be contacted as needed, and are always invited to attend as they so desire.

• School administrators will be notified of review date and time. Review Letters will be emailed to school administrators upon final decision. Students are required to remain in attendance at their home school until notification of approval and intake has been held.

• ACCEPTED: Students will report to RSA within 48 hours of a completed intake. Parents are responsible for contacting RSA if they do not attend initial intake scheduled.

• DENIED: Student will remain at home school and notification will be sent to school administration. A rationale for denial and suggestions for interventions will be offered.

ADMISSION PROCESS – REGULAR EDUCATION STUDENT (LTS)

• If student is being considered for LTS, the COMPLETED application should include copies of the letter sent to the parent/guardian and Central Office.

• School administrators should notify RSA administration of pending LTS actions, via phone call and/or email.

• Application should be submitted within 48 hours to allot RSA sufficient amount of time to contact parent and schedule intake before 10 day suspension has expired. This also allows ample time for parent appeal decisions.

• LTS Students will report to RSA within 48 hours of a completed intake. Parents are responsible for contacting RSA if they do not attend initial intake scheduled. (10 day suspension must be fulfilled before starting at RSA)

• RSA will contact the home school administrators if parents are refusing to schedule an intake.

ADMISSION PROCESS – REGULAR EDUCATION STUDENT (LTS)

ADMISSION PROCESS – EC STUDENT• The application must be completed and submitted in the following

order:

• Home School EC Program Specialist

• RSA EC Program Specialist

• EC Director

• Executive Director for School Administration – APPROVED/DENIED status determined

• EC staff should be mindful of IEP re-evaluation dates prior to submitting application. If the date is within two weeks of RSA application submission, then the IEP meeting must be held at the home school.

• IEP Teams do not have permission to place – only to refer through the application process, therefore, applications ARE NOT to be sent directly to RSA.

ADMISSION PROCESS – EC STUDENT • When an EC student commits an offense that can be

considered for long term, the following actions must occur:

• Convene a meeting to conduct an MDR that includes appropriate personnel.

• Determine if the offense is/is not a manifestation of student’s disability.

• If offense is a manifestation, then the student must return to his/her home school immediately.

• If offense is not a manifestation, then the team can uphold the suspension and follow same LTS procedures as a regular education student.

• All RSA students are reviewed at the end of each quarter to determine if they are ready for a transition back to the home school.

ADMISSION PROCESS - CHOICEIt is the responsibility of the home school to assist and submit a completed application for parent/student requests for attendance at RSA.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE “HOME” SCHOOL

• Home school continues to “own” the student throughout the process

• Placement must go beyond “relief” for home school and be purposeful for the student.

• RSA can combine with partial day at home school and other programs (success academy, CTEC, etc.)

• Home school must provide a safe and orderly place for students receive bus transportation to and from RSA.

• Bus Discipline is the responsibility of the home school.
