UNDERGRADUATE PROJECTS Distributed Data Mining on Astronomical Data using Hadoop Framework Faculty Advisor – Mrs. Aruna Gowda Team Members-Abhiroop Sarkar, Shivam Agarwal - Aim of the project is to provide a complete system through which scientists can run their desired

algorithm on the given datasets remotely. People register their request on server, the system we built runs the data mining job parallel on the datanodes and the result is finally submitted back to the user.

Library Catalog Journal Classification Faculty Advisor – Mr. Rajendra Kumar Roul - Built a Classification System for the Library of our campus to classify Journals, Research Papers on the

basis of keywords mentioned into an ontology tree using Naïve Bayes Algorithm. - Programming was done on Python and dataset was collected from Microsoft Academic Research.

Using Clustering and Content Based Ranking to improve Search Engine Efficiency Faculty Advisor – Mr. Rajendra Kumar Roul - Built a Search Engine using various Information retrieval techniques. Recall of web pages was improved

with Clustering of web pages. - Crawling, Preprocessing, Indexing, Retrieval and Ranking all were written in Python using Gensim, Nltk

libraries in the relevant tasks. Automatic Classification of Tweets into categories using Natural Language Processing Techniques - Aim was to classify tweets into categories such as Politics and Sports to improve user experience.

Model can be scaled to include more categories such as Entertainment, News, and Spam. - Stood 4th in a similar Machine Learning Competition organized by IISc achieving accuracy of 95.56%. - Programming was done in Python using Scikit-learn Machine Learning library. Used algorithms were

Naïve Bayes and Support Vector Machines

Machine Learning Algorithms for fMRI data Faculty Advisor – Mr. Gautama Krishnan as Part of Reading Course - Studied the use of Machine Learning Classification algorithms to find links between stimulus and brain

images. The question where exactly in the brain activity pattern of the environment we are exposed to? Was explored using fMRI data and Machine Learning Approaches.

Predicting Loan Interest Rate using Multivariate Linear Regression Techniques As part of Data Analysis Course on Coursera - Aim of the project was to predict the Loan Interest Rate using various parameters such as FICO. Score

(credit worthiness), loan amount, current salary of person, current debt of person etc. - Linear Regression was used and Programming was done on R language Automatic Detection of Fake Account on Social Networks using User Profiling and Classification (Ongoing) - Aim of the project is to successfully detect fake Accounts on Social Networking Sites such as Facebook

and Twitter using combination of Natural Language Techniques and other various other features such as No.of tweets/posts, No. of followers/friends etc

Blogs/Journals/Research Papers/News Articles Recommendation System (Ongoing)

- Aim of the project is to build a web framework which retrieves various articles based on user's query and recommend him with other entries using User Profiling and Collaborative Filtering Approaches.

BITSCONFERENCE Android Application Faculty Advisor – Mr. Mangesh Bedekar - Android Application for all the Conferences to be held at BITS PILANI GOA CAMPUS. - The Application has Campus map, Building floor maps for navigation; Schedule of Events; Event Details,

Speaker Details along with other features. Treasure Hunt Android Application - A GPS Based Treasure Hunt Application for Android OS using Proximity Alert and Google Maps API with

SQL as backed database server. BITSG Student Search Android Application - An Android Application to search for the students of our campus by their Name, Id, Hostel No , Branch

etc. and get other details including ID Pic of the student. Inventory Management System Windows Desktop Application - Objective of the software was to enable the user to maintain record of the inventory present in the

stock with the options of adding, issuing, deleting, updating items as and when required.

ACHIEVEMENTS

- Stood 4th in a Machine Learning competition (Twitminer) organized by Indian Institute of Science - Winner of Google Android Hackathon for the application GPS Based Treasure Hunt - Inspire Scholar

EXPERIENCE

Technical Team Member – Cubito.in February 2013-Present - Cubito.in is a startup by BITS Students whose motto is to create the sustainable mode of transportation

in which one can enjoy the comfort of the private transportation on the cost of public transport. - Working on building an optimized Algorithm to successfully pool the people on the common route

given various other factors such as Time, Source and Destination. Core Member – Environment Protection and Awareness Club August 2010-August 2013 - Participated in and organized various events such as Tree Plantation Drive on Campus, Beach Clean

Drive and Goa Greenathon.
