Rapid Deployment of WW VMsLewis Talley
Few click deployment
• From nothing to a fully configured Wonderware node in a matter of minutes!
• You can decide which technology to deploy (from InTouch to System Platform)
• How?• By leveraging vSphere
Templates & Wonderware silent install with response files
A little bit about the technology
• vSphere Templates• What are they?
• Introduced in 2012 R2• Basic syntaxC:\<path of setup>\setup.exe /silent “<path of responsefile\response-file-name>”
• There are a number of pre configured response files that you only need to update user names and passwords
Response file samples
• Also documented in Appendix A of the ASP install gude
Prework (template)
• Image built• I used 2008 R2 SP 1• Enable .NET 3.5.1 Windows
Feature• Enable IIS (per WIS Tech Note
– if installing WIS)
Prework continued..
• Copy the ASP 2014 Install media• Unzip using 7-zip to C:\ ASP-2014 (this
will be important later)• Create a batch file for the silent
installation• In this case we are installing
InTouch (so I create the batch file below in c:\Silent Installs)
Response file samples
• The batch file just needs to point to any one of these files
• I used InTouch in my example
Make it a template
• vSphere Client• Convert to a template
• Then deploy a virtual machine from it
• This will bring up the options to customize the guest
Deploy the template
• Selecting this option will allow you to customize guest (name, license, network, etc..)
That’s it..
• Now we wait..
• Takes about 10-15 minutes
