St. Catharines, ON In 2008, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corpora-tion together with Rankin Renewable Power Inc. devel-oped three green energy hydro power projects on the Welland Canal. The new power plants are located at the weirs adjacent to Locks 1, 2 and 3 in St. Catharines, On-tario, Canada. CHC provided a water-to-wire equipment package for each new plant, including a 1700 mm verti-cal axial flow Kaplan turbine capable of 2.0 MW of power, vertical synchronous generator, hydraulic power unit, switchgear, controls and protection package.
