Ahoy Sailor!

Sailing is an amazing binder of people and their varied, complex spirits...

It brings people together, and the passion we share as sailors, competitors, crews and adversaries,

often transcends even the highs of our daily lives and chosen paths, and leaves one in a better place:

fresh, invigorated.

The emphasis that is being placed on expanding organised Coastal Cruising presents a very powerful

opportunity for all members, boat owners and our friends and families to experience and enjoy

another angle on our beautiful town...from the far more horizontal and peaceful ocean. (Even in a fair

breeze and in a swell, being on the ocean is far less frenetic than highway traffic and office noise).

There are so many yachts, so much potential, and such beautiful and unique environs on our doorstep.

What a privilege we share as Royal Cape yachties!

As a coastal cruising opportunity, join the club's organized events, meet new people, and reconnect

with old friends and members. Most importantly, enjoy getting out on the water!

There is a Lighthouse Cruise lined up for the weekend of 6-7 September, with the better of the two days

being favoured closer to the time, when the predicted weather is less uncertain.

Also, the most important cruising event of the year is coming up shortly: Opening Cruise and

associated festivities is set for 5 October. Make contact with the yachts around you and let's clear out

of the marina for the day to celebrate our club, our bay, and one another. Your interpretation on the

theme "Traditional and Colourful" is eagerly anticipated...

On the racing front, good luck to the yachts competing away from home at Gaul and Spring

Regattas. Please also enjoy the delivery time trial "Rock-to-Rock Challenge with the Kraken", in the

window period that opens at midnight this Friday, and ends midnight on Friday 20 September.

Documented sightings of the sea monsters will be rewarded.

Come Sailing!

Last Saturday, 24th August was the Winter Series Club Race 3 & 4. Read Luke’s report Cracking Back-to-Back for Race 3&4 of the Club Winter Series.

Don’t forget two bottles of the Kraken will be in a Lucky draw after racing on Saturday!

Next Race 28th September.

Full results on the website.

The Rock-to-Rock Challenge with Kraken – 31 August to 20 September

… This is a sailing time trial to determine the fastest yacht on corrected time (RCYC TCF)

under sail from Barker’s Rock to Roman Rock, by any type of yacht with the

appropriate COF for the voyage envisaged, and registered for the race with RCYC.

During the sailing window, a Kraken ladder of all corrected times will be kept on

display at RCYC. The sailing window opens at 00h00 31 August and closes at 24h00 20

September 2013.

The annual Rock-to-Rock is awarded to the challenger with fastest corrected time for the round-the –

peninsula voyage under sail, with the prescribed annual window for sailing. The challenge coincides

with the delivery period for yachts entering Gaul regatta at GBYC and Spring Regatta at FBYC. It is

open to yachts from all yacht clubs.

Every yacht that successfully completes the challenge by starting, finishing and recoding a time within

the stipulated rules will be reward with a bottle of The Kraken Black Spiced Rum. Each competing

yacht will submit a declaration, signed by the skipper and every crew member, stating their GPS start

and finish time. Every yacht will make use and save a GPS tract (at 15m intervals) that can be

inspected to prove the detail of their full voyage.

Mooring at RCYC, GBYC, FBYC, HBYC are available subject to availability at the rates and terms

dictated by those clubs and must be arranged in advance by each yacht. However, only if you are

entered in and competing in FBYC Spring Regatta, and/or GBYC Gaul Regatta, are there mooring

incentives available from those clubs subject to availability, and under strictly stipulated conditions

and date limits.

Entry form online or at Reception.

Opening Cruise – Saturday 5th October 2013

35: the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and

everything. This Saturday, there will be just 35 days to the

opening cruise. That's just enough time to prepare if you are that

way inclined, but it is certainly enough time to find out exactly

who's yacht is moored next to the one you sail, to motivate

them to get out onto the water for the day, and certainly

enough time to get your family, friends and crew together to

join your yachting neighbours out on the water in a celebration

of sailing in Cape Town. Let's clear out the marina. No excuses!

The Theme this year is “TRADITIONAL & COLOURFUL”

CAROUSEL SHARE FOR SALE

Own a piece of this exceptional and well maintained Beneteau cruising yacht

“Carousel” and its well-located mooring. Carousel is owned in a partnership

that has worked extremely well, and she is great for club racing and cruising.

Some advantages of owning in partnership: Core crew is instant; buy-in cost is

more affordable; maintenance and capital improvement costs are quartered.

Also, with more owners, the yacht actually gets used, and that is one sure way

to keep her spic and span and well maintained. I am selling my share purely

because I am going to focus more on racing on a recently acquired Simonis

35 [also owned in partnership]. Give me a call to discuss. Luke 0829248434.
