Generically, a "college" is a company of persons having a common purpose or common duties. Wehave let the term develop over the years to mean the common purpose of learning at a "higher educa-

tion" level. More recently our community colleges have developed a concept of community-wide,

open-door learning opportunities not only at the higher education level, but at the level of the needs of

the adult citizens of all ages and levels. What an outstanding example of developing civilization of

man! Education on multi-levels and for all citizens at moderate cost!

You are wise to take part in this movement. Over 30% of all enrollment in post-secondary institutions

in this country is now enrolled in community colleges. It's the wave of the present and of the future. If

you are a student, we would like to say congratulations for becoming a part of our educational family.

If you are a prospective student, we would like to say come and try the SCC experience — whether a

course or a full curriculum. We have a faculty and staff who are committed to making SCC one of the

most meaningful experiences of your life. We are a "company of persons having a common purpose or

common duties"— that purpose and duty is your educational development".

rare to find someone willing to give so much of

their time to students and staff. In recognition of

her unique contribution to SCC, we dedicate this
