Vines & Leaves To create the vines you will surface crochet onto your panels. This is where you can have some fun and make your shawl your own, after all no two vines are identical. Below I will show you how to surface crochet and give you some examples of the vines I made. Surface Crochet Color D Working into the panels; insert your hook through your fabric so your hook comes out the other side. Attached your yarn to your hook and pull a loop through your fabric, now insert your hook again in the direction you wish to go. Yarn over (behind your fabric) and pull loop through your fabric and the loop on your hook like a slip st. Continue in this motion to create a track of surface slip stiches

Work your scroll in between your roses but leave the last edge/join free. This is where you will do your corner scroll after you have joined your panels.

Tip: When sewing your ends in, sew in on reverse side of panels. Follow the tracks that your scrolls made for a neat and tidy finish

Join to Main Shawl Color C Before you continue with the decorative leaves, you need to attach the panels to the main shawl. Work on the wrong side of shawl and panels. Check to make sure you join your panels using the join edge we created in part 3. Short panel first. Start in the first stitch of you shawl and panel *Work one sc into the both loops of each corresponding stitch* Your shawl has 209 sc’s on the side and your panel has 208. Make one extra sc in the last stitch. Total = 209 sc Long panel second * Work one sc into the loops of each corresponding stitch down the edge of you shawl then continue on joining the end of your short panel for 234 stitches* Total = 234 sc Fasten Off

Corner Scrolls/Vines Now that your panels are attached to your shawl you can finish the corner scrolls/vines. Again make it your own and have fun.

Leaves Decorative leaves. You can use as many leaves as you choose to decorate your roses. I have used a combination of Large and Small leaves. See examples below.

With Color D Large Leaf Chain 8, sc in 2nd chain from hook, working down the chain, hdc, dc, 2dc, dc, hdc, you should have one chain left. In the last chain (sc, hdc, sc). Work back up on the opposite side of chain – hdc, dc, 2dc, dc, hdc. Join with a sl st to first sc. Cut a tail about 8” long for sewing leaves onto shawl.
