School Fundraiser today through next Friday, August 23rd!

Yesterday was the start of our annual school fundraiser (one week only!).This year it is completely online! Students who participate by sharingopportunities to friends, family, and others can earn prizes and a trip to ZipCity for a field trip. This is a great chance to shop for birthdays,Thanksgiving, Christmas, or just because! Funds raised support ourband/music, Spanish, and resource programs, as well as other student andfamily programs, and 8th-grade graduation.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SIGN UP

HEB. 11:1–2 : “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the convictionof things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.”

One of the great chapters of the Bible is Hebrews 11. Today’s text is taken from thatchapter. God’s Word defines faith for us and then gives us a long list of faith heroes —Abel, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Jacob, Moses, and others. These Old Testament peoplewere filled with faith, believing in God’s promises to them. Even though they could notsee the result of God’s promise of a Savior who would come many years later, they stillbelieved fully in God’s Word.

Jesus was the object of faith for these faith heroes. Through Him, God kept the promisehe had made to send a Savior. Jesus fulfilled every promise God had made. Even thoughwe didn’t stand at Jesus’ cross or go to the empty tomb, we know that He died and roseagain. Jesus is the fulfillment and focus of God’s Word, the object of our faith. Faith inJesus alone saves us. Faith is always a gift of the Holy Spirit. God gave us the gift offaith in Baptism. Having faith in Jesus we know that our sins are forgiven and that wewill be with Jesus forever. We don’t have to worry about having enough faith. Our faith

doesn’t depend upon our looks, our grades, our jobs, our athletic ability or any othermeasure we might come up with. Rather, faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit, given to us byGod in Baptism.

We are blessed to learn and worship together in our Lutheran school. Here through thewaters of Baptism, God fills us with His Spirit and faith. Here God fills us with His Word inthe classroom and in our worship together. The means of grace fill us with faith. Becausewe are filled with faith, we are filled with joy.

OUR SHEPHERD RAMS ATHLETICS

Our Fall athletics are now underway! If you have a child who wouldlike to play fall sports (cross country, volleyball, or soccer), there isstill time to turn in a current physical form and participate.

Both soccer and volleyball play away at St. John onTuesday.

Both soccer and volleyball play AT HOME on Thursdayagainst Calvary.
