Ralph the Stick Insect

1Ralph the Stick Insect is thin, green and long,

2But if you thought him a stick, you would be wrong.

3He looks like a stick, though he lives in the trees.

4And hides in the branches amongst the green leaves.

5But Ralph is an insect; he isnt a plant..

6Hes got six good legs like a moth or an ant.

7He has two round eyes and two wings for flying.

8He doesnt fly well but keeps on trying.

9He wont live that long, hes got a short life.

10He grows for six months then he takes a wife,

11He mates like crazy; hes got six months more,

12And then its all over. He drops to the floor.

13But now Ralphs alive so he makes each day last,Lives life to the full because the days go so fast.

14Our Ralph likes his life way up in the trees, gazing afar and shooting the breeze.

15Chewing on leaves without any woes, swaying like other sticks when the wind blows.

16Freezing when danger comes anywhere near, looking just like a stick, despite his fear.

17Keep so silent and still as a stone, til the bad guys have gone and leave him alone.

18Up close he looks weird, up close he looks mean,

19Two bulging eyes and five mouth parts, all green,

20Two long antennae for feeling the air,

21Thick coat of armour. Take him on? Whod dare!

22Spines on his legs make the finishing touch. This little guy is really too much.

23But he is an insect; hes not all bad, hes got his place in the world so be glad.
