Positive Return to Scouts

The 2012 Scouts Rally SA proved to be a tough event for all com-

petitors with the rally taking its toll on many vehicles. Synergy’s

Mitsubishi EVO 7 was able to stand strong in the tough conditions

and come away with a positive result.

The opening day saw wet and muddy conditions, with plenty of

rain around the stages became extremely slippery. “I personally

had never rallied in conditions this wet before, it was a great ex-

perience and we learnt a great deal from the days challenges”.

Faced with a cautious start Josh Doyle and Kate Lehmann were

able to find their groove by the third stage, during that stage Josh

encounter a huge rock that had been swept into the middle of the

road. Already committed into the corner there was no opportu-

nity to avoid it, the rock hit the centre diff guard causing it to rub

violently on the tail shaft. “We choose to slow down with about

1klm left not knowing exactly what it was”, crawling back to ser-

vice the team was able to fix the problem ready for the next day.

Day two saw the conditions improve however rain continued to fall. There was a dramatic improvement in stage times from the

team as the forest stages got a work out. “We were able put in some consistent stage performances in the forests which helped us

gain confidence in our notes”, these signs are encouraging for future events. After a brief encounter with a tree in the second to

last stage the team was able to finish strong in their last run.

After a minor mechanical issue arose on the last day it was Synergy’s plan to maintain a positive pace and get to the finish. The
