Rainwater Harvesting Skeletank Discover the inner strength Presented By :- Andy Shuttleworth Managing Director SEL Environmental Limited Slide 2 Rainwater Harvesting AGENDA 1.Why Use Rainwater Harvesting? 2.Legislation & Guidance 3.Elements of a Skeletank System 4.Introduction to Skeletank 5.Why Skeletank 6.How Does It Work 7.Typical Arrangements 8.Advantages 9.Summary Slide 3 Rainwater Harvesting Why are we watering gardens, flushing toilets and washing cars with drinking water? Fundamental Question Slide 4 Rainwater Harvesting WHY USE RAINWATER HARVESTING Good for the environment Saves a valuable natural resource Sustainable Convenience - Hose pipe bans Water the garden with chemical free water Helps to prevent flooding Part of SuDS Feel good factor Legislation Slide 5 Rainwater Harvesting LEGISLATION & GUIDANCE Building Regulations Part G2-17K (125l/p/day April 2010) Building Regulations Part H (Hierarchy - soakaway, watercourse, drain) Code for Sustainable Homes BS 8515-2009 Rainwater harvesting systems Code of practice Conditions of Planning (as a result of pps25) WRAS Handbook The Water Efficiency Calculator for New Dwellings Slide 6 Rainwater Harvesting Gutter Collection Filtration Storage Pump House Re-use ELEMENTS OF THE SKELETANK RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEM Slide 7 Rainwater Harvesting INTRODUCTION TO SKELETANK Tank Inner skeleton Open top Slide 8 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Inner skeletank of permavoid 70 tonnes/m - 10 Full Sized Elephants Slide 9 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Shallow Its strong enough for under your driveway Can be covered with:- paving blocks slabs decking grass and even tarmac Slide 10 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Will fit in the boot of a large family car or on it. Compact 1450mm x 735mm x 315mm Slide 11 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Slide 12 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple 300litre capacity per Skeletank Slide 13 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Easily carried through a standard doorway Slide 14 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Single rotationally moulded shell Consistent wall thickness Strong outside corners Impact resistant polyethylene Slide 15 Rainwater Harvesting WHY SKELETANK ? Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple Standard 110mm pipe connections Compatible with all standard push-fit underground drainage Slide 16 Rainwater Harvesting HOW DOES IT WORK? With overflow to a drain High strength skeleton allows very shallow installation Normally only 500mm deep Slide 17 Rainwater Harvesting HOW DOES IT WORK? With overflow to a soakaway High strength skeleton allows very shallow installation Normally only 500mm deep Slide 18 Rainwater Harvesting TYPICAL ARRANGEMENTS 3 Main Arrangements Tap Only Tap & Toilet Tap, Toilet & Washing Machine Slide 19 Rainwater Harvesting Slide 20 Slide 21 Slide 22 Advantages for the Housebuilder Cost effective Can be installed plot by plot Allows incremental capital outlay No large upfront investment Eases cash flow Satisfies current legislation and guidance Simple installation by Groundworker Health & safety Shallow installation makes it safe Slide 23 Rainwater Harvesting Advantages for the Homeowner Modular, can be installed to suit requirement or budget Good for restricted access Can be added to Satisfies current legislation and guidance Simple installation No heavy plant Health & safety Shallow installation makes it safe Slide 24 Rainwater Harvesting Strong Compact Lightweight Modular Easy to carry Guaranteed watertight Simple SUMMARY Shallow - installation only 500mm deep Environmental Housebuilder incremental, eases cash flow Homeowner simple, safe, economic Saves money Multifunctional with many other uses Slide 25 Rainwater Harvesting Thanks for Listening Any Questions? Slide 26 Rainwater Harvesting OTHER APPLICATIONS - SOAKAWAY Soakaways are one of the fundamental elements of sustainable drainage systems aka SuDS. Soakaways are used to drain rainwater directly into the ground without connection to any mains drainage or sewerage pipes e.g. Rainwater downpipes. Skeletank is the first proprietary off-the-shelf soakaway. The Skeletank is a highly efficient soakaway without the same risk of siltation as a gravel alternative. The equivalent gravel alternative is 3 times the volume of a Skeletank Slide 27 Rainwater Harvesting Slide 28 OTHER APPLICATIONS ATTENUATION When it rains the Skeletank allows the rainwater to be stored temporarily and to be released in a very slow controlled manor. This system reduces the downstream flooding. This philosophy is known as attenuation. Attenuation can be used as part of a sustainable drainage system (SUDS) that is a planning condition prerequisite or a requirement of the buildings regulations Part H. Slide 29 Rainwater Harvesting Slide 30 OTHER APPLICATIONS OIL DRIP TRAY The Skeletank Oil Drip Tray (ODT) is a innovative new method to catch and retain oil drips and spillage. The Skeletank ODT is unique because it can retain oil but at the same time allow water to pass through to a local drain or soakaway The Skeletank ODT should never overflow due to inclement weather. There is also a secondary backup protection in the form of a Permafilter oil retention and treatment geotextile layer. It can be used for oil drum storage, refuelling of small plant such as generators and compressors or it can be constructed within a site refuelling compound to protect the environment and eliminate the need for regular tanker visits to remove trapped contaminated rainwater.
