BANYAN TREE Banyan trees are very large and majestic looking trees that can be found in tropical rainforests in South Asia. They survive for about 200-300 years.

Banyan trees have large heart- shaped leaves, small blossoms scarlet fruit for birds & monkeys to eat. They have about 230 trunks as big as oak trees and 3,000 smaller ones. The original trunk may rot which leaves the younger trunks to support the rest of the tree. Banyan trees grow in clusters.

BANYAN TREE Banyan trees produce: special type of rubber and sticky milk used for gardening. Women in Nepal crush the roots of the tree and use it to produce hair and skin conditioner. The roots are also used to make rope, while the bark and seeds are used as a tonic to cool the body.

The sap and roots are used for skin ulcers and tooth aches. Toothpicks are made from twigs. Various parts of the banyan tree are used are used for traditional South Asian medicine.

RAINFORESTS ARE DYING BIT BY BIT!

Every year, rainforests the size of New Jersey are cut down. The animals living there die or must find a new home. Plants produce oxygen and absorb carbon from the atmosphere (photosynthesis). Since there are a huge number of plants in the rainforests, they produce the world’s oxygen, which animals need to survive. Forests are burned down, then massive amounts of carbon are released into the atmosphere. Most the reasons of deforestation are because of us, the humans. This problem is called global warming.

Rainforests are very dense warm and wet forests. It is called a rainforest because of the high amount of rainfall it gets each year. They are important to us as the plants of the rainforest provide most of our oxygen. There are two types of rainforests, tropical and temperate rainforests. Rainforests have four main layers. We can even make medicine, chocolate, sugar, species, rubber, pineapple and bamboo from the rainforest.
