* Anger is one of the most powerful emotions one can have. If you

don't figure out how to handle anger, it can also hurt you. When

you are angry all you see is red! So time to talk:

*There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being ANGRY. You

get angry when something happens to you, that hurts you. You get

angry when things happen to you that you have no control over,

that you did not cause.

Mary is six years old and is angry about her parents' divorce.

Mary blames her Mom for the divorce. Mary does not talk about

how she feels and keeps her anger inside. Mary doesn't like

hanging out with her friends anymore-it's just not the san1e. Mary

no longer enjoys playing basketball and finds herself more by

herself.

Mary looked at herself at the mirror and then looked at a

picture she took of herself a few months ago. Mary starts to cry

and wonders what she can do to get back to the person she used to

be. Mary hates her Mom n1ore and more, and blan1es her for

feeling the way she does.

Did it help Mary to not tell anyone how she was feeling?

How did anger hurt Mary?

If you were Mary's friend, what would you tell her?

now?

Letting Go of Anger

Anger is powerful, anger is comfortable. Many people never

ever let go of the anger that they have. Keeping your anger

or letting go of it is a choice you must make.

You have to weigh the benefits of keeping your anger with

what you are losing BECAUSE of it.

So let's ·write a list. Describe how you saw yourself before your

parents' divorce. What did you like to do?

1.

2.

.) .

Now let's move onto the second list. How do you see yourself

1.

2.

3.

If the two lists are different, what do you think happened? Do you miss

the person you used to be? What would you do now to change and go

back to what you used to like doing?
