Preparing the Domino Games
To Prepare Each Game
Print the Domino Cards and Instruction Cards for the game and cut into separate cards. These can be laminated to make them more durable if you choose. Store the cards for the games in a plastic bag or envelope. On each card for each game, there is a small graphic to help you identify which set a card belongs to if it is separated from the set.

a game for 2 - 4 players Place the dominoes face down. Each player takes 4 dominoes. The first player lays a domino in the center. The next player must join a domino to the first one joining the picture to the letter that starts the word for the picture. If a player can’t make a join, they pick up a domino. Players continue to join a domino or pick up a domino. When there are no more dominoes to pick up a player misses a turn if they can’t put one down. The first player to use all of their dominoes is the winner. Please Note: Dominoes can be placed vertically or horizontally when joining to another domino but cannot be placed over another domino.

Print the dominoes onto paper and cut into individual cards. Join the dominoes, joining pictures to their beginning letter. Glue the dominoes in rows onto a large sheet of paper.

Five in a Row Dominoes a game for 2 - 4 players
Place the dominoes face down. Each player takes 5 dominoes. Players attempt to join their 5 dominoes in a row to make 4 words. The first player to do so is the winner. If no players can join all 5 dominoes, players each return one of their dominoes face down with the others and then choose a new domino. Players continue to swap one domino for a new one until one player is able to make 4 words with a row of 5 dominoes.
Five in a Row Dominoes Challenge a Challenge for Individuals
Print the dominoes onto paper and cut into individual cards. Lay the dominoes face down. Choose 5 dominoes. The challenge is to make 4 words with a row of 5 dominoes. If you can’t join all 5 dominoes, return one of the dominoes face down with the others and then choose a new domino. Continue to do this until you can make a row of 5 dominoes making 4 words.

Create your own Word Building Domino Game.
Create a list of 24 words with the phonic element that you would like children to study, e.g. words with ar and or. Split the words into onset and rhyme or into 2 syllables. Write the word parts on the word cards, writing the first part of the word on the right side of a card and the second part of the word on the left side of another card.
Create your own Rhyming Domino Game.
Create a list of 24 words and write a rhyming word beside each one. Write one word from each set on the right side of a card and the matching rhyming word the left side of another card.
