LAS T WEEK’S GAME - DALLAS 3, OAKLAND 0Th e Oakland Raiders opened the preseason in a Monday Night Football contest against the Dallas Cowboys, falling 3-0 in front of 50,403 fans at O.co Coliseum on Monday.POSTGAME NOTES:• RB Darren McFadden saw his fi rst action since Oct. 23, touching the ball on the Raiders’ fi rst three snaps of the game’s fi rst possession. Fol-lowing a 4-yard rush, McFadden took a short pass from QB Carson Palmer and scampered 18 yards. He wrapped up the sequence with a 16-yard run before an interception halted the drive.• Th e Raiders’ run defense, which ranked 27th in the league last season, limited the Cowboys to just 54 yards on the ground and 2.7 yards per rushing attempt. Th e Silver and Black allowed just 3 yards on the ground in the fi rst quarter and only 16 yards in the fi rst half.• QB Terrelle Pryor saw his fi rst signifi cant action since his time at Ohio State, completing 8-of-15 passes for 50 yards and rushing for 21 yards on six attempts while playing the entire second half. Pryor last sea-son played one snap, a play that was nullifi ed by a penalty. In his last col-legiate game, he was tabbed for Sugar Bowl MVP honors aft er leading the Buckeyes to a victory over Arkansas. • WR Rod Streater was impressive in his fi rst action as a pro, haul-ing in a game-high six passes for 66 yards with an 18-yard catch. Th e non-draft ed rookie’s 18-yard grab came on a fi rst-down pass from QB Matt Leinart at the end of the fi rst quarter, starting a drive that culminated in a missed fi eld goal attempt. He was targeted a game-high eight times.• DTs Tommy Kelly and Dominique Hamilton both registered sacks in the preseason opener. Kelly got to QB Tony Romo in the fi rst quar-ter for a 12-yard loss, while Hamilton posted a 6-yard sack and forced a fumble in the fourth quarter.• P Marquette King launched a pair of long punts while stepping in for injured Shane Lechler. Th e rookie free agent totaled fi ve punts for 201 yards (40.2 avg.) and boomed punts of 52 and 60 yards.• RB Lonyae Miller was the workhorse of the Raiders off ense, totaling 62 yards of total off ense. Th e fi rst-year player, who was playing against his former team, rushed for 39 yards on 15 carries and hauled in three receptions for 23 yards.• S Mike Mitchell picked off a Kyle Orton pass at the end of the fi rst half. Mitchell enters the 2012 season with two career interceptions.• Th e 3-0 loss to the Cowboys marked a rare shutout defeat for the Raiders, as it was just the second time in franchise history that the Silver and Black has been blanked at home in the preseason. Th e Raiders have suff ered six preseason shutout defeats in the team’s history, with the lone previous home shutout coming against the Arizona Cardinals in 2008.• Th e Raiders missed two fi eld goal attempts with Sebastian Jan-ikowski missing from 47 yards out and Eddy Carmona pulling one wide right.• DT Jamie Cumbie and rookie LB Chad Kilgore each batted down passes on a Dallas drive late in the third quarter.• Unoffi cial professional debuts were made by 22 Raiders against the Cowboys in the preseason opener. HEAD COACH DENNIS ALLEN POSTGAME EXCERPTS:
On the game: “I think there are obviously some positives in the game. I thought our fi rst team defense did exceptionally well. I was real pleased with the way that Darren McFadden played there in the fi rst quarter and so there are some positives about it. We got a lot of young guys a lot of reps. But at the end of the day, the execution is not where it needs to be and we have to be better.”
On eff ort and intensity: “I thought the eff ort and intensity were pretty good. I think at times during the game we might have got a little tired and the focus wasn’t quite where it needs to be, but that’s to be expected in a preseason game. Nothing unusual. But overall, I thought the eff ort and intensity was good.”
On WR Rod Streater: “I’ll get a chance to really look at the tape and evalu-ate his overall performance. Statistically it looked like he had some yards, he had some catches. So in that regard I thought we did a nice job. We’ll have to look at the tape and really study the details and make sure he was executing what he needed to get executed.”
On QB Terrelle Pryor: “For the fi rst time to be on the football fi eld in real game action, I was pleased he was able to get out there and get some reps and get some experience. Obviously, we have to do a little better job getting in and out of the huddle and getting the play snapped a bit sooner, but those are all things that can be corrected, so he’s a work in progress and just like I’ve always talked to him about, I want to see him get a little bit better every day.”
On QB Matt Leinart: “I was pleased with the way Matt came in and played there in the second quarter and the end of the end of the fi rst half. I thought he ran the off ense well. I thought he executed. I thought he threw the ball well, took what the defense gave him and so he took command of the huddle and commanded the off ense, so I was pleased with where he was at.”
On RB Darren McFadden: “Well we got him a couple of touches early and he was able to make some explosive gains and that’s what we anticipate out of him. We threw the one screen to him and he busted out on a run pretty good, so I think he’s an explosive playmaker and we have to fi nd ways to get him the ball and give him an opportunity to be explosive for us.”
WR Rod Streater hauled in six passes against the Cowboys.

TEAM NOTES/DEFENSE & SPECIAL TEAMS
2012 OAKLAND RAIDERS WEEKLY RELEASE8
When Dennis Allen became the 18th head coach in Raiders history on Jan. 30, 2012, he prom-ised to fi eld a tough, smart, disciplined and com-mitted football team, noting that organizations win games in the National Football League by more than talent alone.
Allen, 39, is the NFL’s youngest head coach, more than six months younger than the league’s previously youngest coach, Pittsburgh’s Mike Tom-lin.
With 16 years of combined coaching experience at the college and professional levels, Allen enters his 11th NFL season. On six occasions during his 10 years as an NFL assistant, his team earned a playoff berth: 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011. And four of those trips came aft er division championships: Th e NFC South with Atlanta in 2004 and New Orleans in both 2006 and 2009, and the AFC West with Denver in 2011.
His résumé also includes football’s ultimate prize, a Super Bowl XLIV ring he earned by helping the Saints beat season MVP Peyton Manning, who threw for more than 4,500 yards with 33 touchdowns, and the India-napolis Colts to conclude the 2009 campaign.
Th e NFL’s second-youngest defensive coordinator when the Broncos hired him in 2011, he coordinated a defense that helped Denver parlay an AFC West crown into a Wild Card win and a date in the Divisional round. During his only year in Denver, despite starting three rookies most of the season, the Broncos improved 12 spots over 2010 in overall defen-sive ranking (from 32nd to 20th) and bettered their points allowed by eight spots (from 32nd to 24th).
Among four Pro Bowlers on Allen’s defense, Von Miller thrived. A Pro Bowl starter and the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, he tied the team’s rookie record with 11½ sacks. Elvis Dumervil also fl ourished under Allen, rebounding from injury to register 9½ sacks. In fact, the Broncos’ 41 sacks as a team were their most since 2000.
Prior to joining the Broncos, Allen was an assistant coach for fi ve sea-sons with New Orleans, fi rst as assistant defensive line coach (2006-07), then as defensive backs coach (2008-10).
Under Allen’s direction in 2010, the Saints’ secondary allowed an NFL-low 13 touchdown passes while ranking fourth in the NFL in net passing yards per game (193.9).
In 2009, Allen tutored a secondary that played a key role in helping the Saints to their fi rst Super Bowl victory. His unit accounted for an NFL-high six interception returns for touchdowns and totaled 22 picks en route to their championship. One of his pupils, cornerback Tracy Porter, sealed the Saints’ 31-17 win over Indianapolis by returning a Manning interception 74 yards for a touchdown late in the game.
He also helped revitalize the career of safety Darren Sharper, who in 2009 tied for the NFL lead with nine interceptions. Sharper joined safety Roman Harper in forming the fi rst pair of defensive backs in franchise his-tory to make the Pro Bowl in the same season.
In 2008, his fi rst year as secondary coach, Allen helped the Saints over-come season-ending injuries to both starting cornerbacks and contributed to a defense that held fi ve opponents under 200 yards passing.
Allen assisted in tutoring the Saints’ defensive line from 2006-07, help-ing defensive end Will Smith become a Pro Bowler in 2006 aft er posting 10½ sacks and forcing three fumbles.
He originally entered the NFL coaching ranks with Atlanta in 2002, spending four seasons with the Falcons as a defensive assistant. During his stint in Atlanta, the Falcons qualifi ed for the playoff s twice—as a wild card in 2002 and as NFC South champs in 2004—and played in the NFC Championship in 2004.
Allen spent his fi rst two years with Atlanta working primarily with the defensive backs. In 2002, he aided that unit in improving from No. 30 against the pass to 16th, while tying for third in the NFL with 24 intercep-tions.
In his fi nal two campaigns in Atlanta, Allen assisted in coaching a de-fensive line that produced Pro Bowlers Patrick Kearney (2004) and Rod Coleman (2005). In 2004, the line helped the Falcons total 48 sacks to lead the NFL for the fi rst time in team history.
Allen kicked off his football coaching career in 1996 as a graduate as-sistant at his alma mater, Texas A&M, where he was a four-year letterman as a safety. He worked with Aggies defensive backs for four seasons before coaching the secondary at the University of Tulsa from 2000-01.
A highly recruited defensive back at L. D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, before following his father, Grady Allen, to Texas A&M, Dennis went on to start the fi nal 21 games of his career on the top-rated Texas A&M “Wrecking Crew” defense.
Th e Atlanta native was signed by Buff alo as an undraft ed college free agent in 1996 and spent training camp with the Bills. His father, Grady, played in the NFL as a linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons from 1968-72.
Allen and his wife, Alisson, have a son, Garrison, and a daughter, Layla.
