From our very first breath, we have used the visual medium to enhance, embellish and entertain: from daubing the walls of caves to scrawling tags and sharing sensational street art to powerful political cartoons and crazy comic strips. Whether your taste is Manga and graphic novels, gag cartoons and picture books or storyboards and cartoon strips, comic books are a rich and vibrant medium for conveying humour, making social commentary or simply good old entertainment. So come and be creative, innovative and above all enjoy this opportunity to enrich your storytelling literacy and express your ideas in an excitingly different way. Clued Up!

Do you enjoy researching and learning about aspects of the world? Are you an expert in a field and would like to share that knowledge with others?

If so, Clued Up! is for you! We will be looking at examples of young people’s television documentaries to learn about what makes them effective, then we will learn how to research, interview, express opinions and more. We will then choose the content that we wish to explore for our audience. The content will be entirely up to you and could be anything, from food to flamingos to football to France!

We will then film and edit our segments to create a first class documentary to share with our audience!

Event Management• Have you ever wanted to organise and run a large event? This could be a disco, film night,

BBQ, Summer fete or something else!

• In this UBC you will come up with an idea of an event to organise and run.

• You will be responsible for booking/purchasing any items required for your event• Pitching to the Social Hub for a loan to kickstart your event• Identifying risks and assessing these• Producing promotional materials to advertise your event• Creating and selling tickets• Running your event.

• Please be aware that you will probably need to give up some of your own time to run the event – this could be after school or during a weekend (depending on what your group chooses to do!)

We will look at • What is ‘coaching’ and how/why is it useful?• The mind-set of top sports ‘leaders’ and how we can use this in our own lives.• A mixture of practical and classroom lessons.

OutcomeYou will coach adults in a 15 minute sport of your choice – they will need to ‘learn a new skill/technique’.

Portrait classDo you love drawing and want to learn how make your work look

more realistic? Come to portrait class!

We will learn: - How to achieve the correct proportions

- How to look carefully and produce detailed, realistic portraits, focussing on one facial feature at a time

- Different shading techniques considering where a light source is coming from

Our outcome: After practising drawing portraits of ourselves and each other we will be able to sell these portraits at the outcome alongside offering to draw a portrait of our visitors for them on the day!
