2014 SOCIAL COMMITTEEEVENTS CALENDAR JUNIOR
REPORTERWe moved to RBC in June 2012, it is a fun and safe place to
live. Our street has lots of kids and everyone is always outside. The planned activities here are a blast. We are so lucky to live in such a great place.
The annual event of the Tour of Lights is an absolute craze between the citizens of The Ranch of Brushy Creek. Seeing the creativity of the families who put up lights this year really brings out all of the Oooos, Ahhhs, and Wows of the children and adults who ride the hay ride and absolutely make this an amazing RBC tradition for everyone. Whether its before or after your hay ride, you can enjoy the many festivities of listening to live music, having a delicious homemade treat, or hanging out with your neighbors. Finally, the annual RBC Trail of Lights is always an amazing gathering of many people who love seeing the creations of the many neighbors who put up the creative slew of lights on thier houses.

Casino NightDid you know you can find our very own Casa Blanca just a
few miles up the street? We had such an incredible response to our first ever Casino night event last year that we had to find a larger venue to accommodate the turnout this year! We’re so excited to be doing it again! Here’s your guide of who’s who and what’s what at Casablanca this year!
• Casa Blanca is only a short drive down Brushy Creek Road. The driveway comes up fast so look for the white house in the wooded area with white Christmas lights. There’s plenty of parking. 2211 Hairy Man Rd, Round Rock
• Tickets are sold online in advance only. They will NOT be sold at the door
• Arrive as early as 6:30 to get checked in, grab a bite to eat and dine on delicious bites catered to you. Check in at the registration table to receive your playing chip and name tag.
• “Rick’s Café Americana” will be set up as a cash bar featuring specialty drinks so cleverly named after our sponsors!
• You might be “…shocked, shocked to find gambling is going on here.” It’s true. Game tables are open from 7:00 – 10:00. We’ll have Black Jack, Roulette, Texas Hold ‘em, and Craps. Don’t worry if you’ve never played before. Experienced professional dealers provided by Texas Poker Supply are there to help you win.
• “Here’s looking at you, kid” Capture the moment forever at
our free photo booth provided by Booth 66. The social media station nearby will allow you to immediately upload your favorite shots directly to your facebook, email, and twitter account.
• “As Time Goes By” you’ll inevitably make your way over to the dance floor where there will be plenty of entertainment provided by DJ Gatsby.
• Once the games are closed please turn in your chips for tickets, which will be dropped into the raffle drum for a chance to win some fantastic prizes.
Special thanks to our Ranch at Brushy Creek HOA and to our sponsors! Their generous donations made this night possible!

R@BC NEIGHBORS VACATIONSOur family had a short vacation in Dallas January 2nd through
5th. While there we visited the Gaylord Texan's Lone Star Christmas, which featured Kung Fu Panda's Awesome Snow Tubing as well as their ICE Display, featuring the Nutcracker.
The ICE Display was made of more than more than 2 MILLION POUNDS of hand-carved ice sculptures and slides! It included scenes from the classic ballet, accompanied by the original Tchaikovsky score. There was also a interactive area that transported families to the iconic holiday sights and sounds of New York City. And finally, it concluded with a Nativity scene all in ice.
The ICE Display is housed in an enclosed area, where the temperature is kept at 8 degrees maximum. Parkas are provided to all guests. It is COLD!
ICE is carved by a team of 40 master ice artisans from Harbin, China. These talented craftspeople spend more than a month in Grapevine creating the one-of-a-kind display. Harbin, known as the "ice city" of China, hosts the famed International Ice and Snow Festival annually, where more than 2,000 sculptors carve a 100-acre walk-through ice park using ice from the nearby Songhua River.
What a fun activity for our family! Sara, Dan and Amaris Gorlick.

Implementing yoga into a workout routine can provide unique health benefits, said a Baylor College of Medicine physician and yoga enthusiast.
Yoga is a broad philosophy containing many different paths to achieve the goal of physical, mental and spiritual well-being,said Dr. Bobby Kapur, assistant professor of medicine at BCM and associate chief for emergency medicine at the Harris County Hospital District's Ben Taub General Hospital. In physical fitness, yoga is the practice of physical postures and breathing exercises that allow a person to strengthen the body and at the same time enter a meditative and relaxed state of awareness.
Yoga entails various positions, stretching and deep breathing. Practicing yoga can help a person improve flexibility, balance, limberness, blood circulation, and it can also relax muscle tension and fight infection, Kapur said.

Lifting and carrying a child, picking up toys off of the floor, and pushing a stroller are normal daily tasks for many parents. Below are some quick tips to avoid overstraining your spine and other body areas.
LIFTING YOUR CHILD FROM THE FLOORWhen picking your child up off the floor, you should use a
half-kneel lift. First, stand close to your child on the floor. While keeping your back straight, place one foot slightly forward of the other foot, and bend your hips and knees to lower yourself onto one knee. Once down on the floor, grasp your child with both arms and hold him or her close to your body. Tighten your stomach muscles, push with your legs, and slowly return to the standing position. To place your child onto the floor, the same half-kneel technique should be performed.
CARRYING/HOLDING YOUR CHILDWhen holding or carrying your child, you should always hold
him or her close to your body and balanced in the center of your body. Avoid holding your child in one arm and balanced on your hip. When using a child carrier be sure to keep your back straight and your shoulders back to avoid straining your back and neck.
PICKING UP TOYS FROM THE FLOORAs a parent you will too often be involved in cleaning
up after your child. When picking toys up from the floor, keep your head and back straight, and while bending at your waist, extend one leg off the floor straight behind you. This is often called a “golfer’s lift”, as you may see some “seasoned” golfers retrieve their ball from the hole this way.
LIFTING YOUR CHILD OUT OF THE CRIBIf your child’s crib has a rail that lowers, you will want it in
the lowest position when lifting your child out of the crib. As you lift, keep your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Arch your low back and, while keeping your head up, bend at your hips. With both arms, grasp your child and hold him or her close to your chest. Straighten your hips so you are in an upright position, and then extend your knees to return to a full stand. To return your child to the crib, use the same technique and always remember to keep your child close to your chest.
PUSHING A STROLLERWhen pushing your child in a stroller, you will want to stay
as close to the stroller as possible, allowing your back to remain straight and your shoulders back. The force to push the stroller should come from your entire body, not just your arms. Avoid pushing the stroller too far ahead of you because this will cause
you to hunch your back and shoulders forward.Children and parenting are stressful enough. Focus on proper body movement and enjoy
those kiddo’s without unneeded aches and pains.
