PrincipleThisstartingmethod,mainlyusedfor largemotorpowers,preventsthespeeddropduringthe"star-delta"transitiontimeandmaintainstheresultingcurrentpeakatarelativelylowvalue.
ForthispurposetheextraKM4transitioncontactorclosesfirstbeforetheKM2starcontactoropens.WhentheKM4contactorclosesthemo-torwindingsareautomaticallydeltaconnected,viaresistancestocompensatethelackofcurrentduringthetransitiontimeandthusthemotorspeedremainsbasicallythesame.ThefinaldeltaconnectionstepisthenachievedbytheKM3deltacontactorclosingwhichswitches-offthecoilsupplytotheKM4transitioncontactor.Asinthebasicstar-deltastartingmode,theclosedtransitionstar-deltastartingmodeisrestrictedtolowresistivetorquemachines.Itisadvisable,especiallyforbigmassesofinertia,toobservethattheconnectionismadeinacc.totheclockwiseoranticlockwiserotationdirection,asindicatedintheblockdiagramshownbelow,inordertopreventdamagesduetotorquethrobs.
