P Proper Deer Carcass Disposal After a successful outing, there are few options as to what to do with your buck or doe. You can have the deer processed at the local meat processor of your choice, or you can do the job yourself. In any case, you will have to deal with the remains. Hides can be sold or donated for use in the leather

industry, giving a second life to what otherwise would be thrown away. The rest of the carcass (bones, fat, etc.), should be disposed of properly.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission it is illegal to dump animal remains. The Department of Environmen-tal Protection considers it municipal waste and states that it can be placed with your regular garbage. You should use a suitable container for curbside pick-up or take it directly to the Authority’s Transfer Station for proper landfill disposal. What should not happen is for it to end up over the bank along a rural road; this creates not only an eyesore but also a public health hazard.

For more information on proper handling of deer carcasses, contact The PA Game Commission at [email protected]. To report illegal dumping in Centre County, contact Dave Watson at [email protected].
