Opening Ceremonies

Invocation by Chapter Chaplain

Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag

I pledge allegiance to the Flag Of the United States of America

And to the Republic for which it stands One nation under God,

Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Singing of the National Anthem “The Star Spangled Banner”

Singing of the Official State Song

“Old Folks at Home”

Way down upon the Suwannee River, Far, far away,

There’s where my heart is turning ever, There’s where the old folks stay.

All up and down the whole creation, Sadly I roam,

Still longing for the old plantation, And for the old folks at home.

Chorus All the world is sad and dreary

Everywhere I roam. O brothers, how my heart grows weary,

Far from the old folks at home.

4

Salute to the Confederate Flag

I salute the Confederate Flag with affection, reverence, and undying remembrance.

Singing of Dixie’s Land

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton, Old times there are not forgotten,

Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land.

In Dixie Land, where I was born in, early on one frosty mornin',

Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land.

I wish I was in Dixie, Hooray! Hooray! In Dixie Land I'll take my stand

to live and die in Dixie. Away, away, away down south in Dixie. Away, away, away down south in Dixie

UDC Ritual

President: “Daughters of the Confederacy this day we are gathered together in the sight of God, to strengthen the bonds that unite us in common cause; to renew the vows of loyalty to our sacred principles; to do homage unto the memory of our gallant Confederate defenders, and to perpetuate the fame of their noble deeds unto succeeding generations. To this end we invoke the aid of our Lord. Hear my prayer, O God, attend unto my prayer.”

Response: “From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

President: “For Thou, Lord, art good and ready to forgive and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee.”

Response: “Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer, and attend to the voice of my supplications.”

President: “Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, we adore Thy Love and providence in the history of our country, and especially would we thank Thee for our Confederate History.

Official Prayer “We thank Thee for its pure record of virtue, valor, and sacrifice; and for the inspiring reflections that, despite its bitter disappointments and sorrow, it proclaims for us to all the world that we came through its years of trial and struggle with our battered shields pure, our character as a patriotic and courageous people untarnished and nothing to regret in our defense of the rights and the honor of our Southland. Give us grace, our Heavenly Father, faithfully to accept Thy will concerning us and making us all glorify Thee in a sincere obedience to Thy Holy commandments, through the merits and mediation of Thy Son, our only Savior, Jesus Christ.” Response: “Amen”

The Lord’s Prayer In Unison

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.

President: And now by the authority in me vested as President of R. Don McLeod Chapter 2469 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy®, I do hereby declare this meeting open and ready for business.

Objectives The objectives of the Organization are Historical, Educational, Memorial, Benevolent, and Patriotic; to honor the memory of those who served and those who fell in the service to the Confederate States.

Why I am a Daughter of the Confederacy I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I was born a Daughter of the Confederacy. A part of my heritage was that I came into this world with the blood of a soldier in my veins...a soldier who may have had nothing more to leave behind to me and to those who come after me except in heritage...a heritage so rich in honor and glory that it far surpasses any material wealth that could be mine. But it is mine, to cherish, to nurture and to make grace, and to pass along to those yet to come. I am, therefore, a Daughter of the Confederacy because it is my birthright. I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I have an obligation to perform. Like the man in the Bible, I was given a talent and it is my duty to do something about it. That is why I've joined a group of ladies whose birthright is the same as mine...an organization which has for its purpose the continuance and furtherance of the true history of the South and the ideals of southern womanhood as embodied in its Constitution. I am a member of The United Daughters of the Confederacy because I feel it would greatly please my ancestor to know that I am a member. It would please him to know that I appreciate what he did and delight his soldier love to know that I do not consider the cause which he held so dear to be lost or forgotten. Rather, I am extremely proud of the fact that he was a part of it and was numbered among some of the greatest and bravest men which any such cause ever produced. I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I can no more help being a Daughter of the Confederacy than I can help being an American, and I feel that I was greatly favored by inheriting a birthright for both.

Daughter of the South

by Louise Thomas

I am a daughter of the South

member of the UDC

I’m proud of the righteous heritage

my ancestors gave to me

The stars and bars I’ll fly so high

our banner long may wave

I’ll salute the flag of Dixie

til they put me in my grave

I am a daughter of the South

member of the UDC

I’m proud of the righteous heritage

my ancestors gave to me.

We carry on with pride and honor

we’re here to take a stand

to remember our Rebel Soldiers

who fought for our Southern land.

I am a daughter of the South

member of the UDC

I’m proud of the righteous heritage

my ancestors gave to me.
