We are a Catholic Community, united in the Eucharist, living as disciples of Christ, through the practice of Stewardship.
26TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 26, 2021
At that time, John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” Jesus replied, “Do not prevent
him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me.” —Mk 9:38-39

Stewardship Reflection Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“…we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” In
today’s Gospel, the disciples see a man driving out demons in
the name of Jesus, and they ask him to stop because he isn’t
“one of them.” First of all, there is jealousy and rivalry in this
comment. As we read last week, there is no room for those
traits in the heart of a true disciple. Secondly, they said “he
does not follow us.” The pronoun us (rather than you)
indicates that in some ways, they have elevated themselves to
being equal to Jesus. Clearly, they are still struggling with the
lesson of “the first shall be last.” Jesus settles this by stating
that the man should be allowed to continue his work, and that
if he isn’t against us, then he is for us. Here is an important
lesson for us! How often do we grow self-righteous in our own
piety or our own faith and come to the conclusion that our own
discipleship is stronger than another person’s? Our goal is
unification with all those who are “not against us,” regardless
of status or denomination. Missionary discipleship gains
momentum when we realize we are all working toward a
common goal!
Kapaun’s Men Over the past several
years you have been
hearing about a
men’s group called
‘Kapaun’s Men’. Many
men from our parish
have become a part of
this journey of faith
and have grown in their faith. We would like to begin another
group and continue to help many more men on their journey of
faith.
"The Christian life is one in which we strive to grow into the
person God created us to be. This is our goal as a pilgrim on
this earth. But the journey towards the goal is Kapaun's Men:
walking in fraternity and solidarity with other men striving for a
seat at the Eternal Banquet."- Adam Riopel, Wichita, KS
Who We Are
Taking as our model the life of Father Emil Joseph Kapaun, a
courageous Catholic Priest, Army Chaplain, and Leader of Men,
Kapaun's Men are committed to fighting the great spiritual
battle that rages around us. We seek to grow in virtue and
answer God's call to holiness as a band of brothers, lifting one
another up and helping one another become better husbands,
fathers, leaders and friends.
Our Model
Through a format of prayer, formation and discussion, we seek
to foster five essential characteristics exhibited by Father
Kapaun which are important in any man's life: Fellowship,
Conversion, Faith, Leadership and Accountability.
As we celebrate the return of Servant of God Father Kapaun’s
remains to the Diocese of Wichita this week, this is a great
time to allow the inspiration of the life of Father Kapaun to
lead us in faith. If you are interested please email me,
Extraordinary Ministers Meeting During the celebration of Sunday Mass, we priests are grateful
for the assistance we receive from the Extraordinary Ministers
of the Eucharist. In order to continue to communicate well
regarding this ministry we have planned a meeting for all
parishioners who are presently commissioned as Extraordinary
Ministers of the Eucharist on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 pm in
Stewardship Hall. I look forward to seeing all ministers at the
meeting.
Feast of St. Francis: Blessing of Animals To honor the feast day of St.
Francis, who was known for his
love of all of God’s creatures,
I will be offering a blessing of the animals on Friday, Oct. 1 at
6:00 pm. This blessing is for any animal that you might have
as a pet and would like to have blessed. We will gather in front
of the Church main entrance. Please make sure that all
animals are on leashes or secured in animal crates.
All Saints Day and All Souls Day Our next holy day is on Monday, November 1, All Saints Day.
Since this Solemnity falls on a Monday and it is not a day of
obligation to attend Mass, we will have one Mass at 7:00 pm
to celebrate the holy day.
During the Month of November, we celebrate the Church
Universal by recognizing the Saints Triumphant in heaven on
All Saints Day and the Church Suffering, the souls in purgatory,
on November 2, All Souls Day. To prepare for the celebration of
All Souls day and the praying for the suffering souls in
purgatory we have traditionally put out a book in which
everyone is welcome inscribe the names of their beloved dead.
The ‘Book of the Dead’ is available during the month of
October, in the Church foyer, to allow more time for people to
write the names of their loved ones. Then during the Mass on
All Souls day and throughout the month of November, the book
will be enshrined in the sanctuary. The Mass schedule for All
Souls day will be 8:00 am, noon and 6:00 pm. If the names of
your loved ones are already in the book from previous years
there is no need to put them in again. However, if they have
died within the last year or so, please feel free to inscribe their
names so that we can all pray for the repose of their soul.
Many Thanks! Thank you to everyone who came out to make the Parish
Picnic a success! I would like to offer a special thanks to the
Table and Chair committee for their help in setting up and
taking down all the tables and chairs, as well as the Knights of
Columbus for cooking and taking care of the beer garden.
Thank you to John & Sherilyn Hurst for donating the beer.
Thanks to Lyle Ackerman & David Landoll for the hayrack
rides. Thank you to those that donated their time taking care
of the inflatables, the ring toss, helping set up before the
event, taking care of food placement, and serving during the
event. Lastly, I would like to offer my thanks to those who
stayed after the picnic to help with clean-up. Again thank you
to all who participated by attending the picnic!
