Introduction

• I am going to review an educational app called QuizPic.

Learning App

• A learning app is an app that helps you learn a new subject e.g. language, sport etc.

• I am going to review an educational app called QuizPic.

• This app is educational.

Purpose

• The app is a quiz app that you do yourself.

• You make your own quiz by taking a picture on the go or using one from your camera role. You send your quiz to another user around the world or one of your friends on Facebook.

User requirements• This app is targeted at children aged 8 years – 18 years old.

• The gender target is both genders.

• This app is for primary and secondary school children.

• The people who use this app will either have some computer skills, or lots of computer skills (depending on the age).

• This app has a cartoon and a colourful background to invite the users in to play the game.

• The app features pictures and lots of colours. There are only a few buttons which makes it easier to use. The app is touch screen which makes it interactive and user friendly. The app is user friendly because most children these days know how to use touch screen.

• The colour scheme is bright because it attracts the young users to join in on the game. A lot of the colour are primary but there are also colours such as green, blue and yellow.

• The font is the same throughout the game, it is also all in capitals so the writing stands out from everything else on the screen. The font is also in green so that is stands out from the light background that is a cream colour.

User Friendliness

• The app is easy to use because most children know how to use touch screen. This makes it good because everyone between the ages of 8 – 18 years old can use this app with ease.

• The user navigates through the app by buttons, when they click on the button, they get navigated to another screen which they can choose what to do; they might be picking a question or taking a picture.

• The screen is bright and everything is spaced out.

• The writing is clear and easy to see.

• QuizPic will only work with iOS iPhone and iPad.

• You cannot have this app on a blackberry or android phone.

Strengths of the app• Unfortunately there are no customer ratings or reviews

that can be viewed; but I would rate this app as * * * * (4 stars)

• I think that this app is useful for the younger users.

• You can report any image that you think is abusing or rude. This is useful because if an older user sends an image to a younger user without knowing they were young, then they can report the image and the other user will get blocked from the app.

• The wheel at the bottom of the Main Menu is quite useful because you do not have to cram everything in on one screen and make it all stick next to each other. With the wheel you can have all of the buttons necessary in one place.

Weaknesses• Some of the features are confusing. Such as the tutorial at the start, it

does not tell you a lot about what you are meant to do and how you chose what you want to do. The pictures for the tutorial are pointless because they do not explain anything; some of the pictures are really confusing. the picture space is quite large, but it is wasted by placing a cartoon character taking up all of the space. The instruction that the picture is showing is on a small mobile phone screen that you cannot even see that well.

• On the main menu there are three picture, I do not see why they are there because they do not do anything, all you do is move them around the screen.

• The writing stands out from the white background but can be hard to read as it is quite small.

• I think that the layout of this app is quite random; even though the buttons are always in the same place, there is no telling where the pictures or writing are going to turn up on the screen.

• My dad said that it was quite childish and he would have thought that it was for the ages between 7 and 11.

• The same thing came up when I asked my sister. “It is very childish and I can’t see an 8 year old playing this.” She also said that the ‘How To Play’ section of the app could have more detail in the explanation and could have annotations on the pictures to show what they are trying to say.

City Guide App Introduction

• A city guide app is an app that you can use to tell you what restaurants are close to you and to guide you to the nearest bus stop, swimming pool, park, lake etc.

• I am going to discuss the Trip Advisor app.

• This app falls under the umbrella of City Guide Apps.

Purpose

• The app shows you what there is around the cities in the world.

• This app is needed to help people who are wanting to find their way around a city to find a certain place i.e. restaurant, attractions, shops etc.

User requirements• The app is aimed at adults and teenagers aged 16+

• The app is for both genders.

• The app is for adults and teenagers who want to find where they want to go.

• You do not need to know how to use a computer to use this app because it is very simple and straight forward.

• The app has HD quality pictures to invite the users into the app.

• The features of this app are that it is touch screen which makes it easier to use and has the colours of the logo to help the user recognise what app they are using.

• The app is user friendly because the buttons are big enough to use and you can clearly see the writing throughout the app.

• The colour scheme for this app matches the colours on the logo, this helps the users recognise what app they are using because most people will know that Trip Advisor always has green in the logo.

• The writing is clear to see throughout the app because it stands out from the background. This is useful because you always know what part of the app you are on.

User friendliness

• This app is easy to use because most people know how to use touch screen.

• Also, there are navigations that tell you where you are in the app.

• The user navigates through the app by using buttons that are clearly shown. They can also scroll down the screen to access more information about places.
