WHAT IS THE EXPOSITION / INTRODUCTION?
Usually brief(1-2 paragraphs).
Introduces character and setting to the reader
WHAT IS THE RISING ACTION?
The main part of the story that is filled with problems, events and twists
WHAT IS THE CLIMAX? Highest point of tension and release of tension in the story (usually close to the end)
WHAT ARE THE TWO TYPES OF CHARACTER?
A character is a person, or sometimes even an animal, who takes part in the action of a short story
There are two ways to find out what a character is like:
1) Direct: The author comes right out and tells the reader what a certain character is like
2) Indirect: The author gives information and lets the reader draw their own conclusions regarding the character (most effective way to learn about a character)

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND NON-PHYSICAL PLACE?
The physical environment, including weather conditions, may be specifically described.
The nonphysical environment includes cultural influences such as education, social standing, economic class, and religious belief. These may be revealed by physical properties in the scene or through the characters' dialogue, thoughts, statements, and behaviors.

Person vs. Nature: this is a battle with the environment a character finds themselves struggling with
