where I found out what ice-breakers were used for, to try and break the anti-socialness between two strangers. And ice-breakers seldom work at times, but other times they create awkwardness between everybody in the room. The third panel I saw was the Pub-lic Speaking conference, there I gained more knowledge about speaking in front of a crowd, as well as quite a few laughs but I’ll come back to that momentarily. The final conference I saw was the Brand Guide panel, where I was introduced to the basic guidelines and assets for any Key Club related documents. And now, some

thoughts and experiences I

have about event. First, I

thought the ice-breaker in the

beginning could have been

better planed, because I no-

The New Jersey Regional Training Conferences that took place at Bloomfield High School was a very informative, as well as a very fun, experi-ence. The event started out with a bagel breakfast, an in-troductions to the Lieutenants Governors of New Jersey, and an ice-breaker. Personally I thought the ice-breaker could have been a little more organ-ized, but I’ll get to that in a second. And finally there was a quick rundown of the up-coming Key Club events to kick off the conferences. The first panel that I attended was the Vice Presi-dent conferences; there I learned what it takes to be an excellent V.P. as well as gain-ing a full understanding of what the Vice Pres. does, be-sides being the sassiest person in the meetings. Next I at-tended the Ice-breaker panel

ticed that when the LTGs

told everybody to split into

groups there would be

those semi-antisocial peo-

ple whose don’t really

know what to do, and that

includes me. A possible

way to resolve this is to

divide the groups manually.

But let’s step away from

negative things; let’s get to

some funny moments, the

entire Public Speaking con-

ference was funny, with

Christina Xiao and other

attenders of the panel pop-

ping in some funny com-

ments now and then. But

Meet the (Past) President - Joe Viola

As my final year of high school has neared its end, I look back at the memories I have had in the past few years at Emerson Junior-Senior High School. Some are lovely, hilarious and joyful, while others are the kind of memories that make you cringe when they come to mind. However, one of the best aspects of my high school years was Key Club.

I was immediately inter-

ested in the club my fresh-

man year, and I am so glad

that I joined when I did.

The Key Club has taught

me so much, including

leadership, teamwork, and

organization. It has also

helped my character im-

mensely and truly shaped

me into the person I am

today. I feel that with the

skills I have gained through

this incredible club, I can

take on whatever I set my

mind to in my exciting (and

nerve-wracking) future as a

performer.

Although my senior year as

President, was, unfortu-

nately, prevented due to

various issues, I am so

pleased to have been a part

of Key Club the past few

years and hope to see my

club and the many others in

the area and the country

thrive and accomplish eve-

rything they wish to.

My name is Hailey Graf and I am the current President of the Secaucus High School Key Club. My favorite subject is sci-ence and I love to vol-unteer. On my free time I enjoy shopping and socializing with my friends. My number one goal for this upcoming school year is to ex-pand the idea of team-work throughout our club. It’s an important factor when trying to come up with new ideas. I also plan to ad-

vertise Key Club and hope to have member-ship increase. To do this I’ll talk to the new upcoming freshmen class about Key Club and what we’re about. The best thing about Key Club is all the friends I’ve made. Not only the friend-ships I’ve made with members in my club, but also the friends I’ve made from the other clubs in Division 16. I hope throughout the year I meet more peo-ple and I’m able to start even more friendships!

Hey Division 16! My name is Cynthia Thurairajah and I’m the Lieu-tenant Governor of Division 1B. I’m an incoming senior at Egg Harbor Twp High School and have been in Key Club for four years. I come from a line of LTGs from my school who helped pave the way for my love for service. Key Club has given me the chance to be a leader, but more im-portantly help people around the world. I’ve been a part of lots of clubs and activities since I was little, like track and basketball, but nothing has brought out my personality more than Key Club. I hope that as an LTG I can bring my own division closer together, as well as work with other divi-sions in our district. After attending Key Leaders, Fall Rallies, DCONs and soon ICON, I found people who bring out the best in me, and I’m sure many of you can say the same thing. Shout out to our other half, Tenafly! I hope to see many of you at our upcoming district wide events and have a great summer.

Yours in Caring and Service, Lieutenant Governor of Division 1B Cynthia Thurairajah
