Block of the Month / Boutique

The Boutique at Quilts Kingston is one of the main fundraisers for the guild and presents the opportunity for all members to help. Memberships to the guild only cover the cost of rent, insurance, library, coffee and tea. Funds for Community Quilts and Programme come from Quilts Kingston profits. Having high quality speakers is very expensive. Please make a few items. Below is a chart showing the types of items that sold well at the last show. Each month, patterns and samples of some of these items will be supplied by The Block of The Month and put on the Website. You are not limited to these patterns. Please make whatever makes you happy whenever you want. Think about organizing a work party with some friends or making a small item once a month - whatever motivates you.

We had a very nice display of quilts at our last meeting. Twenty-four quilts were finished by the group since our meeting last June. On Tuesday Sept 9, we had our workday at Anne Dickson's place as usual. Anne and Gerrie were on holidays, but they let us use the house anyways. There were 6 of us attending: Holly Moyes, Heather Buchan, Gisele Van Putten, Jean Clair, Susan Torrens and myself. We had 10 quilts needing labels, which got all done during the morning coffee. With Gerrie not there to make our lunch, we still had quite a nice spread. Heather brought the soup, and there was lots of good stuff. We concentrated on pin basting panels, - Claudette of KGH has requested several for their gift shop. Apparently we are the only ones helping her by making quilts for the shop and the panels really sell. There were also several quilts that had borders put on, and some big quilts needed the backings pieced before we could baste them. All together we got 8 quilts ready for quilting, and Susan Torrens took a load home to work on before she leaves for Florida. The next work day will be Tuesday, October 7th.
