Liturgy of the Word

1st Reading Jeremiah 1:4-10 A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah:

The word of the Lord came to me thus:

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. “Ah, Lord God!” I said. “I know not how to speak; I am too young.”

But the Lord answered me. Say not, “I am too young.” To whom-ever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak. Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.

Then the Lord extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying,

See, I place my words in your mouth! This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms. To root up and to tear down, to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant. The word of the Lord.

All Respond: Thanks be to God.

2nd Reading 1 Cor 1:3-9 A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians: Brothers and sisters: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faith-ful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Have pity on us!” And when he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell
